Re: SVX prototype brochure

Thanks for posting this Joe. I really enjoyed reading about the SVX prototype features and viewing all of the Subaru show cars. The 624 Estremo seems to be styled as a 4-door SVX. I'd like to have one of those.

You're welcome of course Larry.

Interesting you say that. When you look at the '87 Estremo and the earlier '85 F-9X, both of these designs have the curved over canopy roof reminiscent of an aircraft canopy.

That implies that Fuji design people were toying with this idea that refers to Fuji's past history as an aircraft manufacturer long before Giugiaro had a hand in the design.

Maybe it is the case that Giugiaro refined, tidied and balanced the design that the Fuji guys were toying with all along? If that's the case, hats off to the Japanese designers for innovation and imagination.

Re: SVX prototype brochure

the SRD-1's floating center stack is reminiscent of the Volvo C30's

Re: SVX prototype brochure

It reminded me of that straight away too.

On a niggle note, it looks to me like the SRD console is either an afterthought, or else a triumph of style over function. It appears to be positioned straight in front of one of the air vents, which is not too smart.

And the cupholders look about as useful as those in the SVX as well!!

I, too, dig the SRD-1, rockin' the 245s. Nice!

Again, to each his own. The Amadeus works for me, from all angles - but the SRD-1.....hmmmm I see a squashed, shiny cigar. Lots of glass, yes. Something I want to drive, no.

Re: SVX prototype brochure

The SVX is amazing I think to be that ahead of its time in concept, it barely changed coming into production huh? I wish that other one come to even a limited production, it would have been an awesome car to own, in every way. It would rev like an indi car. And the SRD-1 is very neat. Oh well, we got some nice freaky, futuristic cars anyway, SVX FTW.

Exiga is a pretty sweet ride (95 concept looks better) but the F-624 Estremo is obviously the predecessor to the SVX design. I think this ends the argument of heaviest influence.
Check out that suede dash.

Thanks for the link, that's wonderful!

This means the Exiga is an actual model in Japan. It shows prices, interiors, everything.

They don't show a manual option anywhere, but the 2.0GT model uses the 5EAT gearbox, while the lesser models make do with the 4EAT.

No change buttons apparent on the steering wheel, just the console lever.

It looks a lovely car, and has 6 or 7 seats. Very cool!

Joe

That's a pity, because it is prettier and more interesting than the NSX.
