high performance headlight bulbs

Several months ago, maybe even a year ago, some one posted a thread of purchasing high performance bulbs from John Deere dealers. The price was very cheap and he gave the part number. I forgot the bulb number but it was the same bulb that someone on this site tried to do a group purchase. I tried to do a search but since I don't remember the bulb number I couldn't find it. The bulb was shaped alittle different than the original bulbs. Can anyone help find the thread.

I was going to do a group purchase on some bulbs. They weren't John Deere though. I will do some searching and try to let you know about them.

Thanks, that was the tread I was looking for. I didn't realize they cam in high beam as well as low beam. I guess the bulb from John Deere would be a low beam. What is the high beam number HIR? Are they a worthwhile upgrade or just switch 9005/9006?

If they were the brighter of the two (9005), they could be used in both because of the projector type beams in the low beam lights. They would be brighter, but would not blind oncoming drivers.

I don't follow. I understand that the high beam 9005 can be used in the low beam by modifying the base but are you saying that the high beam HIR bulb could also be used as the low beam by modifying the base? Is the HIR2 the high beam or low beam bulb? And if it's the low beam bulb, what's the high beam bulb number?

I found the Group Buy Thread that I posted last year. I hope this will help.

I have modified the high beam bulbs and put them in for the low beams. I have never done any other modifications to bulbs than that. I have put all of the HID 9011 bulbs in all 4 locations. It really makes a difference.

They are MUCH better than SilverStars.

when I measured the SS bulbs, they actualy put out LESS lumens than the stock ones. I even bought a new stock bulb to check against.

The only down side to using the high beam HIR bulbs in the LB spot is they have a much shorter life (~1/3) of low beem HIR. (see thread link)

thread and web site for more info and bulb Specs:

I don't see where they are the HIR- just 9011 base/type bulb. Make sure you ask them

To use the HIR 9011 in the lb projector, do you do the same modification to the base as is done to the 9005? I'll need to check with the John Deere dealer to find out if their bulb is a 9011 or 9012. I would think it's a 9012 since I can't see why you would need a high beam on a tractor.
