Brakes question
I just had my rear rotors and pads done. Coming home my brakes squeal like hell when you apply the pedal. Cant tell if its coming from the back or the front. It didnt squeal like this before. Do they need to break in or something? When I first took the car out from the shop it made a weird noise so i took it back in and they did something with the rear rotors and now that noise is gone. Now I am getting a squealing noise like the pads are low. I didn't get the fronts done because they said it was ok. They didn't squeal like this before. Any ideas?

Take it back again, they shouldn't squeal straight out of the box.

Well i came back home....i was fed up being there for all that time and i had things to do. I guess Ill take it back monday morning. It sounds as if its coming from the front from what i can tell. They didn't do anything with the front though...why would they squeal now and not before?

Took the car back in today and I think he said he had the brake pad on too tight or something like that. Whatever the case is everything is all good now. He said if there was anything else to just bring it back to him.

An old shop trick is to bevel the pads edged if they squeal. When the pads wear past the bevel they might squeal again.
If the pads were on to tight then they would be draging. That was a total bs cover. Who's pads did they use? Steve

Probably just a piece of hardware, a shim or the backing plate rubbing a bit. Never fails to amaze me that people can't just say "Oops". When you consider what we're made of, it's amazing that we do as well as we do - so what's the problem with admitting to a simple mistake?

Save yourself the trouble and get veltelated rotors and some performance brakes. The squeaking should never be heard again untill u have raced the pads to nothing left. That should solve the problem pretty fast.

Yelling won't get you a good job. Just express your frustration and disappointment - that should be good enough to get them to cough up some free work in the future like an oil change maybe.

It happened to my previous car.... if you changed rotors maybe the caliper does not open all the way back after you press on them brakes. Also wrong pads or rotor thickness spec? it can also be the rotor is not bedded in even against the hub.
spacing on the brake system is very precise. suggest they take it apart and put them back..... it will just take time. |
