Dyno Results

A local shop that does a lot for the the NASIOC guys just got a new AWD Dyno put in. They had a "grand-opening" deal for an awesome discount, and I couldnt pass it up.

I got 4 pulls (first one wasnt very consistent), and these are were the 2 best.

176hp and 180tq!

In comparison, when Chike had his stock SVX dynoed (plus STi air filter), he put down around 165hp and 173tq.

On the same dyno, a bone stock STi pulled 263HP/273TQ. The highest numbers that day 323hp/302tq out of an 04 WRX.

My only real performance mod is cat-back exhaust. And a CEL for an 02 sensor.

It was a Dynojet...not really sure how they compare to other types of dynos.

I hear that DynoJet's are alittle more accurate than the other "roller" trpes.... I'd love to get my car out to a Dyno run sometime... Would be shooting for around 200hp / 200tq.... If I got those numbers, I would be a happy camper... My mods would include lightened flywheel and crank pully, GREEN airfilter, Stebro Exhaust... The calculations alone for the "Lightening" would translate into about a 28+ hp gain!!!... Shaved about 5 lbs off the front and about 12 off the rear... that's about 17lbs off the crank... and boy can you FEEL IT!!!... Damn, there I go off on another topic...

Anyway, great numbers man... It really makes ya respect the power that STi's make when ya see their numbers next to our car's numbers... Man... I want that power out of a N/A EG33!!! Hopefully (Bank account willing) Boxer4Racing (Dale Teague) will be able to help me attain my goal of 300 flywheel HP from the SVX in N/A form sometime within the next year or two.....

This seems pretty high, usally a stoick Sti will pull around 240 WHP at the wheels.

Agreed. That's what stock STIs pull at the broken-in dynojet at Altered Atmosphere where I dyno'd my car.

Not to burst your bubble Scott, but if a stock STI made 260+hp at the wheels, assuming a 20% drivetrain loss, it would make 328.75hp at the crank!

Most SVXs have a 30% drivetrain loss through the automatic 4 wheel drive system - you would be making a clean 250hp and that's in 80* weather!!!

One other thing Scott, trap speed at the end of the 1/4 mile is typically the best indicator of hp (gearing doesn't affect your trap). Last Fall with just a high flow panel filter I trapped at 89.54mph when I ran a 15.327 on 4.11s. You trapped at 89.6mph in 40* weather when you ran a 15.37 on the stock 3.55 gears. Our cars were therefore both putting down the same amount of power to the wheels.

I dyno'd my car on 12/15/04 when it was about 45-50* in the shop and got 165hp and 173ft-lbs at the wheels. The shop when you dyno'd your car was much warner (80 degrees) and you got 176hp and 180ft-lbs.

That dyno is definitely reading high and the stock STI dyno number definitely shows it. Post on NASIOC if you don't believe us.

-Chike

P.S. Here's what Cobb got for a stock STI and after their stage 1 upgrade:

I believe you.

On Thursday, a stock STi put down 249/247, so maybe that guy was lying about being stock.

Still, 249hp is within 4hp of what a Cobb Stage 1 STI makes!

If your engine was truly making 250hp at the crank on a 80 degree day, you should be trapping around 91.5+mph in the 1/4 mile and probably running 15 flat to upper 14's in the 1/4 mile.

What mods have you done since you ran the 15.37 @ 89.6mph? Is your car still in the same state of tune?

I am trapping at 91.5 Hopefully I will see some trap speeds of 92 or 93 after the stage 2v4 and some et's of mid maybe lower 14's

Correct. Based on Mychailo's dyno results with his Mr Dyno, doing a 5/6mt conversion typically gives you about 175-180hp at the wheels due to the lower driveline loss.

The phenolic spacers, custom headers-back exhaust and Impreza fpr have caused my traps to increase from 89.5mph to almost 91.3mph...

Yeah, it's still the same as when I ran the 15.3, except for the wheels.

The secret 30hp from the STI wheels is confirmed on a dyno!
