cold start hesitation solved?

well, i have a problem when the weather gets cold - i park my car at a subway Park n' Ride. i have to drive up a big hill shortly after leaving the lot. if its fairly cold out (>45deg) and i don't warm it up for bit after sitting all day, it would stutter and hesitate by the time i reached the top of the hill, sometime even kicking a 'misfire, cyl#1' code. after warming up, all is fine.

so i figured i'd clean my throttlebody, and more importantly, the idle air control valve, considering it only functions when i have troubles (cold starts).

upon removing the plastic box that connects to the throttlebody, i discover that the rubber portion sticking out of the box that slips over one of the throttlebody openings is folded a bit inside itself at the bottom! probably enough for a small amount of extra un-metered air to enter the throttlebody. i'm thinking as the engine warms up, the rubber might expand, sealing up the small opening caused by the fold......

either way, i hope the cleaning / fixing the creased rubber around the TB opening solves this trouble! i guess i'll have to wait a few weeks to find out for sure when i use the Park n' Ride again.

Good luck, hopefully that was the problem.

It makes sense to me.

I used to have a bit of a hesitation when cold. It disappeared after I installed my ECUtune Stage One. I never had misfires though. I guess this doesn't help as you have obdII. Might make you want ecutune even more though....
