VISOR DROOP FIX for under two bucks

I've sent the forum adsministrator a fix for the dreaded visor "droop" that occurs in the SVX.

The best part of it is that you can fix your drooping visor for under two bucks and a bit of time. Seems to work well for us, so I documented it and hope it will be placed under the "How to" files.

Once it gets posted, let me know if it works for you.

An image has been attached so you can get the jest of it, but the whole procedure is in a PDF file.

My way of saying "thanks" to everyone on this forum -- for all of the help you have given to me and to my son with our SVX questions.

We are always looking for good fixes - especially if they are cheap. I am the one who is the keeper of the How-To files, so if you send it to me, I will get it in there.

Click on "Earl" in my signature for the email address that you can use for attachments. Thanks

Cool looking fix. I have a clip to hold mine up but it is a pain in the neck to take off when I actually want to drop the visor down.

Thanks for getting it up on the site! Yep, we were using a snow scraper jammed in the headliner trim to hold it up. So far, so good on this fix. Seems to hold wherever you happen to put the visor, so I hope it keeps working! One thing I should/could have added was to be sure to scar up the inside of the nylon shaft before putting the epoxy on, but most folks I think will do that anyway in order to give it more grip.

You guys make me laugh. I have found that velcro works wonders. Attach a small piece to visor and another to headliner. Viola, no more droopage.

Laugh away. You'll find that your headliner will start pulling away from the backing with a velcro fix. Each time you open and close it, it pulls on the headliner and eventually separates it.

How do I know? That's exactly how the previous owner of the car fixed it, and I wish he/she hadn't taken that shortcut. The headliner has 2 ~ 3" worth of separation from the backing. . . right where the velcro was.

Hey, you think I like to sew?

Hey LokiDad and Loki that is a very nice write up.
It is a very nice fix.
I didn't know that the "hollow shaft" broke on some of the visors. Mine hasn't broken yet but I still had the "droop". I was able to fix my drooper by wrapping the "inside shaft" with electrical tape and then shoving it back in the hollow shaft. It has been working good enough for a few years now.

I guess I had just right amount of tape wrapped on the gray inside shaft. If not I might have broken the "hollow shaft" when I cramed the taped shaft back into the hole.

At any rate, It is a poor design that wears out......... unless the visor is never moved.

Velcro Trick...

The Velcro trick doesn't work in the desert. The visors stick in the morning, but once it heats up outside the adhesive liquifies and they refuse to stay up. This gets annoying real quick.

Thanks for the kind comments. I was sure thrilled when the brass insert happened to be the right diameter. What are the chances of that? But sometimes if you go to a hardware store and fiddle around, you get lucky.

And again, it galls me to be expected to pay that kind of money for a replacement of what was a poor design in the first place.
