Refilling Transmission

i will be filling up the transmission after disasembling it entirely
since i drained the fluid from the valvebody and other parts of the transmission is there a special procedure to make sure that there is fluid in all the parts of the transmission after refilling it from empty?

Make sure you fill the TC as full as you can get it before installing it to the trans, or it will blow out a seal when you first start it up.

I agree with Steve - you can fill the TC about halfway before installing it. It makes the thing much heavier, but it helps.

After getting everything back together, fill the pan up to the 'cold full' mark and then start the car. After you run it for a bit you will undoubtably have to add some fluid. You might even have to after driving it for a bit.

I've had to add as little as 4 quarts after replacing a transfer clutch and I've had to add as much as 6 quarts - to a Legacy with a 7.6 quart system. How much you have to add just depends on how long it remained disassembled and what kind of work you were doing.

By 'disassembling the tranny entirely,' what do you mean, exactly? Because that's a lot of parts.

uhhh should've spoke more clearly, not entirely, i don't know why i typed that... probably because i was rushed big electrical storm and wanted to shut the computer down...

anyway not that entirely, it was still in the car. i removed the valve body. and that is it, nothing past there, the clutches are still intact, and the transmission is still in the car.
