shift lock
Hey guys, I need your help. Every time I try to shift from park, I Have to press the override switch on the console. I suspect a microswitch attaced to the brake pedal, but could use your input.
The override system has to be used approx. 90% of the time. (makes it inconvenient to drink and drive!!!!) |

there's a couple of elements that could go wrong. I think the switch at the brake pedal is of the normally open variety. You could just jumper the wires and see if that fixes your problem. That's the easiest cheapest route I can think of.

You may think that this is a dumb question, but it isn't. Are you stepping on the brake when you shift from part to whatever gear?

Do you usually park on a hill? If so use your e-brake. I don't know why, maybe tension do to the pressure on the tranny from the car on a hill will make it not want to shift. Also try easing the brake out when you park so it doesn't sway as much.

Yes, I am using the brake pedal before the shift!!! And no, I am not on a hill.

You could have a bad shift lock solenoid. It's located under the shifter assembly.
