Question question about transmission

I have a question about my transmission. Last fall my tranny started to act up and I decided to park it until spring. Heres what it is doing when I first start it up it goes into all gears but after about 2-3 minutes no movement in any gear and I car hear a slight sucking noise. What could this be a clogged filter or a more serious problem. I changed the fluid but could not change the filter in the pan due to a hard line that goes over it. I could not remove this line or get the filter out What is this line for and could a clogged external filter cause this problem. By the way my SVX is a 1992 LSL with about 112000 miles: Thanks for any help you might have. Damian

Yes that line is difficult to pull down. I had the same problem and left it alone and then the next time I pried it out. It is possible your intake screen (not really a filter) is clogged and good to check. This will tell you if it is the problem. I think you should change the external filter too.

Oh yeah that line that goes accross the intake screen, I rememeber janking on it so hard I had the svx bouncing up down 6 inches while it dripped AFT fluid all over me. Pry it out after the screws are removed.

I think a pressure test may be in order if you find nothing obvious with the filters.

slow engagement

I experienced the same symptom w/my last tranny too. The FSM says that 'excessive time to engage is highly likely to be a deteriorating pump gasket'. There is a TSB about this and a part # for the replacement METAL, not FIBER/paper gasket. Good luck!
