front axles replacement

hello there!
ok, after my engine overhaull, and brakes overhaull, it's time for my knock-knock front axles

so, first, find brand new or rebuilded front axles.
for me, in france, it's very hard to find and VERY expensive.
so, i do a VERY BIG thanks to Hocrest, to buy me a pair in USA and send me to france.
thanks a lot my friend, i own you one!

so now i have my pair of FWD front axles.

looks sooo nice!
someone here say FWD one are stronger than AWD one.
dont know if its real or not ...
anyway,
lift up the car, remove the 2 wheels.
remove the center caps on the hub ( the one in center of the brake disc )
use a screwdriver and an hammer to put it off.
be gentle, it's a weak parts!

Re: front axles replacement

now, remove the screw on the brake line

and dont forgot the screw of the ABS sensor cable

now use an screw driver to remove the lock of the bolt of the axle.
after that, use a 32 wrench to remove the axle's bolt.
airshock gun can be hopefull. for me, i use a good swrewdriver trough the brake disc to lock it and loose the bolt whit and arm extender.
discard the bolt. use a new one when u put the new axle

now use two 19 wrench to loose and remove the bolts of the shocks strut.
the upper one is used to adjust the wheel place. so dont forget to mark it before move it to put it in the same place!

Re: front axles replacement

now you can move down the hub to release the axle

now remove the pin on the other side of the axle, near the engine.
try to dont break it! be caution when remove it! maybe u can re-use it!
u can destroy it only if u have a new one!

ok, you can remove the axle from the car now!
mine was totaly in bad condition!

the car looks scary now heh?

put the new axle, dont forget to grease!
and try to put the holes alligned on the gearbox side!
install the pin, and engage the axle on the hub.

the next is easy : install all parts like the same but in the inverted story!

dont forget to put the upper bolt of the struts to the same place!

dont forget to lock the axle nut too!

after all installed, clean the brake disc, put the wheel on, and put down the car.

here! the car looks new!!!!
have fun!

Re: front axles replacement

Wow you went the hard core route. I always pull the pinch bolt and separate the hub from the from the lower ball joint. That way no alignment is required unlike your method. Glad you got some replacement CV axles.

Re: front axles replacement

yeah, it's you
my old one was so worn, the tripod thing inside the boot was totaly broken.
so, if i try to reassemble it correctly, they have the same lenght.
