turbo for the jag?

Just dreaming about doing a twin turbo build on the V12 Jag XJS. Anyone care to comment on how hard that might be? Cause if not that it'll be swap in a 350 or 454 like everyone else does. I just wanted to be different.

Re: turbo for the jag?

(remembering being under the hood of an XJS)

Where would you put them? I can't think of a cubic foot of space anywhere under the hood of one of those... especially when they already have exhaust heat issues... (or is that one new enough that it doesn't have thermactors instead of cats?)

Re: turbo for the jag?

I really don't know much about the car. I haven't drove it yet it's sitting in storage right now. It's '82 and I'm not sure about the cats. How 'bout the s/c idea. Did you see the pic of that?

Re: turbo for the jag?

See if you can come up with some old British Car Mags (now Classic Motorsports). There was a couple issues if memory serves me right regarding an E-type v-12 with a twin turbo set up. Probably from around 97-99. I might still have it lying around. If you can't come up with it online let me know and I'll look through my hoard of old mags.

Having driven a couple v-12 jags and an xj6 well converted to a 350, the 350 conversion is nothing more than a total transformation of the car and not in a good way. Sure it is a cheap escape from the horrible maint. of the jag 12 but at the expense of what makes a jag a jag. By any standards the jag engine is by far a superior engine as it should be since it cost 12x that of a 350. Not knocking the 350 at all. It just doesn't belong in a 12 cylinder Jag.

Other option I would suggest is dumping the Jag and getting a 6 cylinder XJS as I do know that engine is tunable and easily supercharged to outperform most of the 12s out there.

Re: turbo for the jag?

I've seen a factory supercharged Jag XJ6 (was referred to as the "XJR6", was pretty bad ass lookin. They also had a Super V8 that was pretty powerful but I don't know the specs.

The master tech at my work used to be a Jaguar mechanic, he knows all sorts of stuff about those engines, and tricks to doing the spark plugs and stuff too.. I'll pick his brain and see if he knows anything. One thing I have wondered about, is the XJS used a GM TH400 transmission, instead of the ZF the 6 cylinder Jags used, so I wonder if it's possible to swap that out for a T56...Would depend on whether Jaguar had GM make transmission cases with their bellhousing bolt pattern, or if they used an adapter plate...
