The Excellent Adventure has gone awry.
So.
I am now an SVX owner. I purchased the 97 LSi that was on Autotrader. It needs a little TLC, and has one small dent in the rear bumper, but generally runs excellent, and everything works, Except... I paid the remaining balance, and my friend and I drove it from Sarasota to Orlando, where he and I were going to drop off another car (long story) - and I take it to a lube shop to get the fluids and filters changed for the upcoming trip. I pull up to the service bay, put it in park. When it's my turn to pull in, I shift into park. The shifter moves *WAY* too easily, and the indicator on the dash doesn't move. Long story short, the tranny cable snapped. (I think it was simply from lack of use...the SVX was a bit rusty underneath - it was originally a NY car, and had been siting.) SO...now I'm stuck in Orlando until at least Monday, when the shop will try to order a SVX tranny cable. In his words, he has "no idea if he'll be able to get a tranny cable on Monday, because he just hasn't had to order many Subie tranny cables before." On the bright side, the tranny *fluid* looked very clean. Anyone here have a good idea where I can acquire a 4EAT tranny cable in Orlando? |

Sorry to hear that. Good luck with the fix.

No promises, but Bill Bryan seems recommended in the Orlando area according to this NASIOC thread http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=303203
Bill Bryan Subaru Winter Park | 1001 N Orlando Ave. , Winter Park, FL 32789 800.350.3922 Fax 407.628.4690 They have an online form for ordering parts. "It's easy to order a part from our extensive parts selection. We'll get right back to you with availability and pricing." Can't hurt to ask, although I doubt they'd have it in stock. http://www.billbryansubaru.com/en_US/ Good Luck! |

Thanks, Bipa. I'll put a call in Monday morning.
Anyone else? If nothing else, I'm in a much better mood this morning; if one has to be stranded for a couple days, there are certainly worse places to be stranded than Orlando. Plus, hey - it's just a tranny cable. That'll be $200 or so...at worst. Right? (right...?) |

If you or you're friend are skinny and have long arms, you can probably reach under the car while lying next to the passenger side door and manually work the selector.
I wouldn't want to have to parrallel park using that method, but if your stuck and your careful how you park, you could get home that way???

Anyway - here's the skinny: He's gonna replace the cable, drop the exhaust, replace all of the gaskets (leaking and would have had to be done anyway), change al of the fluids and filters, and get her ready to roll. Cost: $700. So, now the cost on her is up to $3,900...I still think I'm far ahead of the game. |

Glad to hear things are moving in the right direction for you. Good luck on the rest of the trip.
My 10 hour "Sunday drive" home in my "new" SVX was completely uneventful Todd

Okay - update:
The Good: The repairs should be done within the hour, so we'll be on our way home shortly thereafter. The Bad: Tropial storm Ophelia has been sitting off the freakin' coast the ENTIRE time we've been away from home, and our path and Ophelia's path have a high probability of meeting in S. Carolina at EXACTLY the same time. This is getting a little odd. Hopefully you'll hear from me in a day or so. |

Well, that's where I live, so yeah. She's home. Drove beautifully, and it seems that the more I drove her, the better she responded. Pictures, details, etc at a later date. I need sleep - I've had two hours in the last 36 or so. |
