Short in my brake lights

I had just gotten my alternator done about 2 weeks ago and i thought my electrical problems was over... Wrong. Before i had gotten my alternator replaced the dash brake light would go on and go off randomly, i assumed it was part of that whole dash pannel lighting up like a x-mass tree thing. Well i get the alternator done, it goes away, then some time last week it came back. I checked the back and the drivers side light in the trunk is out, BUT when i swapped the bulbs, the bulb was obviously working in the other socket. Its so annoying to see this dash light come on every time i hit the brakes. so i need some help.
I need the Why this is happening, Where is the problem located, and How to remedy the situation. My electrical knowledge is limited to High School shop classes so if i shouldnt even bother with it my self and take it to the shop please let me know.

thanks everyone

sounds like there's a problem either in the wiring, housings, or the connectors. Try cleaning them out and giving the connectors a good jiggle to reseat them. If that doesnt work see if you can find a new housing on the cheap.

Though I guess with a multi meter you could diagnose what the real problem is.

The brake light bulbs have nothing to do with the BRAKE warning indicator. See the other thread currently running on this topic.

I think he meant "stop lamp" light popping up because he said it happens everytime he hits the brakes. If it is the "brake" light then check your brake fluid.

Just get a new harness for that taillight. It should cost less than $10.

Stop Lamp Warning

I just fixed a problem that you may be having. The stop lamp (not brake) warning would come on everytime I applied the brake. All the brake lights were working fine but I replaced all four back lights anyway. It was one of the inside bulbs that was causing the warning even though it was working. The problem hasn't come back. Good Luck with your situation.

The magic

For all you svx guys,
Inside the socket of any hi current light bulb is the contact point, where the led contacts meet the connector contacts, and its certainly the led is melted off the bulb and is shorting to ground.....so....check inside all the brake light connectors for this problem....
