Rear end noise

How can you tell the difference in sounds between bad rear wheel bearings, bad rear axle, bad rear differential, and bad rear brakes. I have sort of a rubbing noise that is constant as opposed to when I brake?

Wheel bearings sound like a very low grinding noise, if there bad. If it is your rear bearings they will get worse( louder gringing noise), good way to that thee going.

Another good way to tell if your wheel bearings are bad is to jack up the car and spin the wheel, if you here the grinding noise then there going out.

I dought its your brakes if the noise is always around when driving, unless there a lways dragging which wouldent be that good, you could always take off the wheel and look at your pads to see if there is any pad left.

I never heard of a rear diff going out on a subaru, i guess there pretty strong.

I dont think the rear axles go bad unless you break one with huge amounts power that the SVX does not posses stock.

**This may sound odd, but it IS effective**

Have someone you trust drive the SVX while you are in the back, with the seat(s) folded down. Listen for the noise under a number of conditions such as cornering, rapid acceleration....if the noise is DEFINITLY coming from either left or right side, your respectivebearing needs to be replaced.
