Cash for Clunkers... anyone ditching their SVX?

Looks like the SVX will be eligible:

http://www.cars.gov/faq.html

Has a combined fuel economy of 18 MPG, just at the limit, meets the age limits. Could get 3,500-4,500 credit for one... better than resale in a lot of cases.

The bad news... any cars traded in this way have to be destroyed. http://www.cars.gov/faq.html#question-12

Sorry if this is a repost of any sort.

Re: Cash for Clunkers... anyone ditching their SVX?

I really do hope NOBODY turns their SVX in for Cash for Clunkers. That program is such a joke. All the energy required to destroy the cars will far outweigh any "adverse effects" of an 18mpg car.

I won't trade mine if someone buys it for half that . That new Mazdaspeed 3 is looking mighty tempting.

Re: Cash for Clunkers... anyone ditching their SVX?

Weren't the original EPA mileage numbers for the SVX 17 city/25 highway? If so, the car doesn't meet the "combined city/highway fuel economy of 18 miles per gallon or less" standard.

I like the core idea as a means to stimulate auto sales, but think the program should be limited to domestically-manufactured autos.

dcb

EDIT: Well, I posed the above before seeing the "ESTIMATED NEW EPA MPG" link; sure enough, 18 MPG. Anybody who gets only 18 MPG net in an SVX must really mat the gas.

Re: Cash for Clunkers... anyone ditching their SVX?

Crazy thought, buy a car one year off new, ie. used, and save $10-15k, and keep your svx.

My SVX gets roughly 16 average when I'm putzing around town, however all highway is 28mpg.

Re: Cash for Clunkers... anyone ditching their SVX?

It's limited to $1 billion, and they've got a long way to go to do anything near the same level of damage as the previous administration.

Re: Cash for Clunkers... anyone ditching their SVX?

Its a decent move, helping the environment is just a bonus, the big thing is giving people incentive to go out and spend some money to help stimulate the stagnant economy, save some auto and dealership workers jobs, and get the people a good deal on a new car with less trips to the gas pump all at the same time.

That being said, your retarded if you trade your SVX for a Kia or something stupid on a deal like this.
