Radio Leads
From what I've seen on a photo, there are two antenna leads on the radio -- one male, one female -- does anyone here know which is which, or, if it makes a difference. I'm the proud owner of a spare stock unit, unfortunately, the owner used the "Thumper" method of removing the radio (clipped the leads close to the radio body). I'm hoping to install the "spare" units this weekend and would like to have the unit ready to go in, instead of pulling the old, checking the leads, fixing them, then, installing. Any help would be appreciated.

Radio lights
While we're talking about the stock radio here, does anyone know if it is feasible to remove the face from the unit to replace the bulbs contained therein? I have upgraded my speakers, and am reasonably pleased with the sound right now, but at least one of the lamps in the unit has burnt out and it looks pretty crappy at night...
And to answer your question Randy, I have no idea. Hey, I'm honest, right?

<grumble> <mutter> Never gonna let me hear the end of that one... are you?
Seriously though... when I removed mine recently I think you were right... one male... one female. As to the question of the faceplate... yes it can be removed, but it's not for the faint-hearted as I recall. I'll look at my dismantled unit (the one out of my old 95... still got the one from my 94) tonight and post. |

NP...
I'll be sure to take a look tonight and post on BOTH issues!
Hey aredub... I know I kinda goofed on that one... but when I first pulled apart my 95 I didn't consider for a second that there had to be connectors somewhere... I just wanted to get the job done (couldn't wait to try out my new stereo!) I figured better than trying to track down where in the hell those connectors were was to just crimp a new one on the end of a snipped lead... for an electronics geek like me it was the easier option I KNOW I need to write an updated one someday... but time is not a luxury I have much of these days! When I wrote the original Stereo Install Experience I was (a) working fewer hours and (b) had no kids! Things change mate |

Hokay... holding the stereo in front of you, looking from the front... the female lead is on the left, the male on the right.
As for removing the faceplate... actually a piece of cake! Remove the stereo from the car first (necessary!), then remove the volume knob. There are two clips; one on each side. Pull on those and pull the faceplate forward. I found that if you leave the volume knob on then it just gets in the way! The volume knob just pops off. Don't know why I thought it was so difficult... I guess because I just thought about tearing the whole stereo down... THAT'S hard. I was trying to use the frame for something else... but that's a moot point now unfortunately |

Ta Thumper. I apologize for being a cheeky monkey about clipping the antenna lead. It's not like you made the dog's dinner out of the project. Just want to make sure everyone has the correct gen. Actually, I'm completely gormy on the install, since I haven't had the goolies to approach the project. One of these days, when I'm full of beans, I'll stop fannying around and get it sorted. Of course, in most cases, when I'm working on such things, Sod's law applies and I wind up with a stonking cock-up. Oh well, ta for taking a shufti at the radio. I'm off for a slash. Meanwhile, we need to meet in St Louis and have a piss up at the local pub. TTFN

Dunno why, but I somehow sensed that. Glad I could help brighten your day. Try to keep your loaf of bread out of Khybur pass and you'll be gobsmacked at what a doddle life can be. Cheerio, for now.

Thumper- thanks for the info on the radio. I will have a try at it this weekend and post on the actual bulb replacement if necessary.
Cheers
