Re: SVX gravel rally car...surely not? Absolutely...
Freeman...I don't remember exactly, but it was around 3000lbs. Given the car, I was happy with that. There's more you can get out, but you're playing in increments. The big weight is harder to get. Ideally, I'd love to get rid of the entire SVX subframes. There's 100kg (220lbs) in them by simplifying to the WRX setup.
Tom...yep understood. Thanks. Matt |

Sorry Tim...factory exhaust is long gone (save for the factory headers) and have to run the standard hood.

Re: SVX gravel rally car...surely not? Absolutely...
So...pick yourselves up off the floor, but I'm working on the car again. A small cash injection has helped clear the way for a bit...not forever.
Today and last night I'd done a few solid hours getting the car out of a pile of rubbish in the corner and clearing the rest of the garage to start. So today was spent installing a rear diff. Out came the old 3.454 that was behind the 6 speed and in went a 4.444 that will be behind a 5 speed. I also reinstalled a bumper at the rear and some stock suspension all round. I didn't check that the 4.444 diff was an LSD. I had assumed as it was part of a turbo 5 speed package...wrong. Was back in the car before I realised. Argh...out it came again. Then reading svxfiles handy tips on swapping ratios (thanks mate!), I then got the diff back in...axles all connected up and the car back on its wheels. I've also gone back to standard suspension (courtesy of the 95 wreck). Once the car is driveable again, I'm taking it to a friends who's offered to make me some headers. My rules have changed and now headers and individual throttle bodies are legal. Cashflow says headers are a good option, but ITB's will have to come later. The 95 has also donated its engine (as I had killed the good rally motor and my other one had been sitting outside for a bit too long) so that will go in with the 5 speed. Now need to get the 5 speed shifter that came with the box extended, and also extend the driveshaft the necessary 2". Then at least I can drive it again. Matt |

Re: SVX gravel rally car...surely not? Absolutely...
dynomatt...
slightly off topic (or...maybe not... what tire size are you running? i have a bunch of 15" rally rubber, but finding wheels to clear the front brakes is difficult... chrysler steelies fit with spacers (cheapest solution, and i like cheap!!) but... im REALLY trying to avoid wheel spacers... if u are running 15" rubber...what do u use for wheels? just wondering... rob ps...keep up the good work!!

Re: SVX gravel rally car...surely not? Absolutely...
Hi Rob,
I run 15" rally rubber. I use Compomotive 15" wheels and spacers (with longer studs) to clear the brakes. Works a treat. Thanks, Matt |

Re: SVX gravel rally car...surely not? Absolutely...
cool
thanks matt! ( i shoulda known that...i've been following u since u started...) my budget for the next while is limited (think your budget /2 then divide by TEN!!) so the chrysler steelies will have to suffice for me....i didnt realize that you too needed spacers to make 15" wheels fit... somehow thought u hit upon a miracle wheel that worked... lol

Re: SVX gravel rally car...surely not? Absolutely...
Would WRX sub frames fit? or would there be alot of modification to make them work?

Re: SVX gravel rally car...surely not? Absolutely...
I haven't had the chance to get WRX stuff side by side.
I'd be reasonably confident they dont' bolt in...and there'd be significant modifications to get them to fit. Matt |
