Re: Here we go again - 'puter problem - dead mouse.
Oh, crap - why didn't I think o' that!!!
(Did I mention that the mouse worked on my desktop?) The battery was the 1st thing I checked - in fact, I'm using the "bad" mouse right now. Thanks, anyway. Ron.

Re: Here we go again - 'puter problem - dead mouse.
I was being serious, mine did very strange things when the batteries got low. It would work fine, then get jumpy or stop moving. Reboot the computer it would work again but then it wouldn't come back after the computer went to sleep and so on. Anyhow it could be a number of other things, sometimes the drivers just get corrupt, or there could be a conflict.

Re: Here we go again - 'puter problem - dead mouse.
Sean - I've had the same intermittent problems with a weak battery before, so I made dam' sure the Duracell was good. It is.
HOWEVER - now with the brand new mouse we're still having problems!!! My conclusion - It ain't the mouse, & never was. The USB ports seem to be fine, as two outboard speakers are connected via USB, & work fine. My guess is SOMETHING'S corrupted within. Yes, I know Windows Vista sucks, but everything was hunky-dory for 5 years. Windows 7 on my desktop instantly recognizes the "mice", & has them up & running in 2 seconds. Right now I've decided to go drink mass quantities of wine, & worry about this crap MUCH later. Thanks, all. Ron.

Re: Here we go again - 'puter problem - dead mouse.
No, no, no! You need to lay your computer and mouse at the feet of a virgin under the light of the full moon at, precisely, 3:33.33 am, rotate it 7 times counterclockwise, then 14 times clockwise. You must, then, dance the ancient dance of the techno geek tribe for 21 minutes. Then, beat the hell out of it with a hammer and, if the virgin is of age, well...
Sorry, it's getting late. |

[/I] I skipped the virgin thing (none down here in Virginny), & went directly to the hammer. Still no luck, but I feel better. Ron.

My Intellimouse Explorer gave up at 5 years.
It would work intermittently, sometimes for even days at a time, but for a few months I was going mad because I wasn't quite sure if my 3 year old rechargeable batteries were bad or if it was the mouse itself. I had no other use for rechargeable AAs so I had no other option than to buy something; new batteries. The problem persisted. Mouse was later replaced and bid a sad farewell. Interestingly, of these newer batteries which I have not even been using but sparingly, one recently ruptured, emptying some of it's bubbling contents into the device it was powering. What's more interesting is the newer batteries were Japanese, while the ones that I have used for over 3 years were made in China. Dun dun dunnnnnn! In somewhat related news, the Logitech mouse I bought as the replacement absolutely will not work if a specific game controller is plugged in at the same time.

Re: Here we go again - 'puter problem - dead mouse.
Oh, boy, more excitement!
Today, I came home to find the cursor on my Windows 7 machine locked up, just like "old times" with the laptop. Yes - I had the "baaad" mouse connected, & all was fine for two days. One thing I noticed while using it was that the 'puter didn't go into sleep mode as it had before. I pulled the USB stick, & re-connected the wired mouse. All's well now. Is this old wireless mouse on crack? Or is it just time to flush it down the toilet, & move on? I still can't get the new wireless mouse to work on the laptop, but that's old news....soooo 20 minutes ago. Ron.

If you have a fresh-battery'd wireless mouse that is screwy and a wired mouse that works fine, I would say the mouse is past its prime.
I've never heard of mice having driver related performance issues. They either work or they don't. Do like I did and plug them both in and use them at the same time. That should tell you what the problem is. Both working = tells you nothing One works one doesn't = mouse hardware failure Neither works = software or bus/controller/driver failure

Re: Here we go again - 'puter problem - dead mouse.
Nik - Thanks, but the real issue remains that laptop does not seem to recognize ANY mouse connection, other than the internal one. I can't download the driver from the Labtech site because it doesn't recognize the nano connector as being plugged into the USB. Sounds internal to the computer, but what created this mess is the mystery. Sunspots?
Ron.

Re: Here we go again - 'puter problem - dead mouse.
Touchpads use a completely different type of driver. If you cant any mouse to work in your laptop you may have a serial bus issue in which case youll want to plug in a different usb device like a keyboard or external drive to rule that problem out.
if other devices dont work, bus problem. if they do, mouse problem. The logitech connector may require a specific install sequence. i will have to look it up later.

I haven't tried an external keyboard. Wired HP mouse doesn't work. Is there any internal "setting" process that I've overlooked that needs tweaking before it accepts the "install driver" process? Oy! Ron.

You mentioned that? I must be half-asleep this entire week or something.
Does the speakers work through the same port as the one you use for the mouse? I have my Logitech G700 here and I'm just trying to remember everything weird I had to do to get it to work. Does your M315 have a power switch on the bottom?

Re: Here we go again - 'puter problem - dead mouse.
Yes, the speakers work through both USB ports, & the mouse has an on-off switch. Yes, it's on!
