New sound...Yay!

I have a squeaking/screeching/grinding type sound comign from the rear. I only hear it when I am turning hard AND going over bumps. If I am turning hard on smooth road, I don't hear it. When going straight over bumps, I don't hear it.

Any ideas?

Could be a wheel bearing in the beginning stages of failure...or pretty much anything else back there. Then again, it could be the sway bar. Take a look at the rear sway bar and if the bushings are in good condition just use some lithium grease or other lubricant on them and reinstall.

One thing I can add is that it seems to make this noise regardless of which way I am turning. It is possible both wheel bearings are going at the same time but that is unlikely and especially considering one has already been replaced. The sway bar is an interesting possibility but it is making more of a metallic sound than a clunking sound.

Check out the dust shields on either side. Maybe one of them is rubbing. I had that in the front, one of the tie rods would push the dust shield into the rotor when I turned. Bent it back into place = fixed the noise.

They would both have to be rusting but I suppose that is possible. The weird thing is that both sides do it, depending on which way I am turning, and it only happens when also going over bumps.

I checked out the underside of the car yesterday and, knock on fake wood, it looks really good. Nothing seemed loose. There was very little corrosion. The rubber boots all looked great and the bushings looked fine too. Whatever is causing the grinding/screaching noise is a mystery still. If it is struts or bearings it is both because I hear the noise when turning in both directions. What is strange is that I don't hear it when going over bumps while going straight and it doesn't seem like I hear it when turning over smooth roads, although that is harder to gauge. My gut feeling is either bearings or my brakes are worn and either the pads or rotors need to be replaced. Could brake wear cause what I am experiencing?
