Help?

So...I think the tranny is slipping..I'll be driving down the highway..and once I get up to about 55-60, it feels like it drops out of gear and the engine shakes REAL BAD..and when I gas it, it'll slowly go up, but my RPM's will stick to like ~2k(wherever they were) and wont move until I depress the gas heavily.

Re: Help?

To me, that doesn't sound like a slipping tranny. When I started losing third and fourth in my Trans Am, it would feel as if I was slipping a clutch. The RPMs would go up, but the car wouldn't move. My issue was my 3-4 band was toast. Like I said, it was in my TA, and I don't own a SVX, so I might be comparing apples to sardines, but I hope I helped a little bit.

Re: Help?

Typically when the transmission is failing, cruising on the highway, under medium throttle it'll slip out of 4th/OD until the RPMs rise enough and then it will finally catch in 3rd gear. Not to be confused with normal torque converter unlock.

Re: Help?

yea it sounds like some weird combo of the torque converter lockup and a mount that's bad or something.

Was my first thoughts as well. rough torque converter lockup+ bad mounts will make for a lot of movement. Explains it accelerating slower and then with more gas, unlocks and downshifts.

Re: Help?

the harness on my trans was broken at the plug, so the first time i took it out, it came unplugged, and the car shook TERRIBLY. It scared the heck out of me. I dont know if thats what your facing, but when i gave it gas, it didnt want to accelerate. threw it in nutral and still shook.

Re: Help?

I think it's a bad torque converter.

Re: Help?
