Where did my transmission come from?

I was on the phone with SVXfiles today going over the basics on the Solenoid C replacement, and I realized something kind of odd.

When I had my transmission replaced, I sourced the part myself. It was supposedly from japan, but I am not sure of that. However, I have read that depending on the transmission, and origin of the car, the Solenoid C will behave differently. I.E. some are normally open, and some are normally closed.

So, the number on my transmission is TZ102Z1DAA. Tom thought that sounded somewhat off, so he checked a few around his shop. If I remember correctly they read TZ102ZM1AA, and TZ102ZM2AA.

Does anyone know where my transmission came from, or have a way I could find out?

Re: Where did my transmission come from?

Hate to bump this thread so early but I would like to know for sure that everything is good to go with the transmission compatibility before I replace solenoid C. Thanks guys

The number is broken down as follows for the SVX:

T - Transmission
Z - A=2WD Z=4WD AT
10 - Distance between gear - 10=108mm
2 - Series Code
Z - A=2WD Z=4WD Multi Plate
M - 3300cc
1 - 1992 - 1=1992, 2=1993... etc.
A - Not Used
A - Not Used

Your number seems to have the "1" and the "D" reversed maybe. "D" might indicate another model engine (which would indicate a different car since the SVX only came with the EG33). Legacy maybe... since the "1" might indicate 1992.

Interesting. My JDM cars have TZ102YL1AA. What do you think the YL means?

Re: Where did my transmission come from?

Not sure. Possibly a jdm designation? If my tyranny is from a legacy its not going to be a 3.54 ratio, correct?

Does your transmission have a spin on filter on the left side?
What ratio is a BG9?

Re: Where did my transmission come from?

Not sure on the ratio, but I will check on the filter when I get a chance today. I don't believe it does, as I don't recall seeing one yesterday when the car was on the lift.

Re: Where did my transmission come from?

So, just using to try and figure out the gear ratio from a BG legacy is confusing. It seems that 2nd generation legacys used 4.11 final drive ratios. However, I cannot find BG specific information. It seems BG may have been the designation for a "raised roof" model, but I am not very familiar with legacys, so I cannot be sure of any of that.

Anyone here have any additional information? It is a 4eat in my car, with the number I listed above.

The bright side to all of this, is that I may have a 4.11 transmission in my car . If that's the case, I can maybe just swap the gears in the rear diff, and everything will be ok. That's the hope anyways. I will update the info in this thread when I find out more.

EDIT: How do you check the ratio on the front diff? I've read about counting the teeth on it, etc. Anyone know off the top of their head exactly how to do this? I can get access to a lift and a tranny jack, so it should not be too hard to drop out and check.

Re: Where did my transmission come from?

Update, I am fairly sure that the transmission is from a 1997 legacy with a 2.5.
I have a friend with that exact car, so I am going to call him and ask him to read his trans ID to me.

IF it is from a 97 2.5, then it SHOULD be as 4.44.

Re: Where did my transmission come from?

I think I am going to have to count the ring gear like we discussed over the phone. Thanks again for our time, tom.

I had a BG Legacy. BG just means 2nd Gen Legacy wagon, 1995-1999. AFAIK all the wagons imported to UK had raised roof. Mine had a dual-ratio 5 speed with a 3.9 diff. I think the auto version was a 4.11
