Cleaning the IAC valve

I have the IAC valve off in my hand, hose still attached, can I spray into it where it mounts up to the throttlebody? Do I need to remove the plastic terminal housing on it or will that mess any settings up if I touch those two screws? Confused on what to do, I just want to clean it.

Re: Cleaning the IAC valve

I just sprayed inside the tube and opening underneath and made sure I got the green plastic moving housing as clean as I could. I then used my air hose to blow anything else out.
I think I answered my own question.

Re: Cleaning the IAC valve

So now that my IAC and throttlebody are cleaned, I notice a High Idle on startup and when it idles normally now it's around 900 or just under 1000rpm.
I haven't touched the throttle cable adjustment or the TCU. I left all screws untouched for adjustments.
What needs adjustment now to bring it back to 650 idle if I never touched the tension on the throttle cables?

Re: Cleaning the IAC valve

You may have moved the IACV when you cleaned it. You can adjust it closed slightly to lower idle. The green valve you mentioned above is what gets adjusted.

Re: Cleaning the IAC valve

The green valve is only visible when the IACV and throttlebody are seperated from each other. When I cleaned it I inserted a small screwdriver to keep it open and spray inside. It sprung back closed. I do not see an adjustment for that without taking the screws off and taking the IACV apart. So I don't see how I changed the settings on that part. Maybe the gunk kept it open enough??

Re: Cleaning the IAC valve

well I added some seafoam to my fuel, then added a few shots of carb cleaner to the line that feeds the IAC and the car didn't like it...Got a code 24 now.
I tested the ohms and got 9 between pins 1 and 2, 2 and 3 when I cleaned it the other day. Not sure what is wrong with it, but looks like I need a new bypass air control valve.
