can I tow my SVX like this?
I bought an SVX from a junkyard about 20 miles away. The only thing wrong with it is a bad tranny. Would it be ok if I towed it behind a truck with the engine running to keep the differential cooled off? Hope this can save me from needing to find a trailer.

I would still keep the speed low to minimize heat.

Why not just rent a small tow trailer with a winch or pay for a flatbed? With a bad tranny, you still have a core to work with. But if it lets go due to being towed with the wheels on the ground, you not only lose the core, but who know what else it might screw up not to mention the cost to get it towed AGAIN.

It won't hurt the diff to tow it with all four wheel on the ground, just the clutches and bands in the tranny, and letting the car run will keep them from burning up...

Curious, if you were to stick a fuse in the FWD slot, then can you use a dolley to raise the front wheels off the ground and tow?

Alia, it can be done. Not recommanded method for long distance driving. You want to leave the car on ign so that FWD mode is running.
I've also driven my SVX back from Reading to Chicago with FWD fuse in there.

just rent a dolly for the day and unbolt the rear driveshaft at the rear diff and lift the front wheels onto the dolly...works very well

Yeah just take the 8 bolts holding the rear half of the driveshaft and tow it. No driveshaft to lag when towing....

yes, they are 2 peice...but the 92 shaft from the factory was not able to be seperated... what is so hard to understand about that... The universal style center joint is seperable the cv style center joint is not
