congrats on your post goal, dan. we went looking for a new house last week. the two-car doesn't cut it any more and i'd love to get into a three-or-more-car garage. they are building some new houses in my area and two models can be equipped with a four-car garage. but then i'd want to opt for an oversized lot and a walk-out basement. the house would then cost over $500k and i'd have to get a second job to be comfortable with a $3000+ / month mortgage payment.

Here's the story.
I get home from work. Wife is all excited that she found me a new beer that is cheap and 6%. Lo and behold - it is iron city. She doesn't get out much anymore.
I didn't have the heart to tell her it is the bottom of the barrel so I am drinking it.

It ain't half bad once you pour it in a pint glass. Straight from the can it is arse but I have and will drink worse.

A 2 car would be ideal, one for her Forester and one for the Porsche and the Pathfinder can sit outside. But prices have soared and a 4 bedroom 2 car in Lehigh County is over $250k easy. That's out of our range. I'll probably move into Berks County where the houses are cheaper, but the taxes are higher.

doesn't it piss you off when you see a house with a nice 2 or 3 car garage......and there is no room for a car because the garage is packed from floor to ceiling with boxes and crap!

Bahhahhah! Sounds like my garage. At least until a couple weeks ago. The wife and I went on a frenzy and spent 13 hours pulling everything out, cleaning it, then seperating the good from the garbage, and putting what was left back inside in an organized fashion. WOW! What a difference. I actually have room to spare to put a car in it and still have roon to move around. I must have made 5 trips to the recycling center that day. Still have a few items to get rid of and tons of garbage bags behind the gate out back waiting to be put out with the regular garbage. It's now my favorite room in the house again. Once I finish I will post some pics. Wish I had taken a few before shots of it.

Johnny

Andy, spare us the 27 minute download and point out what you meant. Are homes more expensive there? It's an island, I would think so. Hawaii is god aweful expensive for that reason. $7 for a gallon of milk. Are all houses high, or just really nice ones? Kinda like an Atlantic Malibu. It's all releative. People in my profession make close to double what I make in north Jersey, but houses are ridicoulsly expensive. A Cape Cod outside New York gets $450k, where here you get a 4+ bedroom, 3500sf+, 3-4 car garage on 1-2 acres for that.

P.S. Andy, not being rude, just some of us are still on dial-up. I clicked you link and it said 20 minutes at 56k, I connect at 44k.

Back on the 928 part of this thread. I sat down last night and tried to compare a 87-92 Porsche 928 S4 to a 03-05 Infiniti G35 Coupe, both black. The Porsche is way cheaper and has ALOT more power (345-280), but I kinda cringe when I think about repairs. The VQ35 in the Infiniti is in 5 or 6 different models, so repairs will be more readily available and more reasonably priced. I would asume Tranny as well. The Porsche also has alot more prestige and is better looking, but not by much. A decent 928 S4 is running in the $14-18k range while the G35 is $22-28k range. Choices, choices.

Sorry about the large file if you are on dial-up. For those on broadband, there is some interesting bits in there, if you are a 'homey' sort.

As an example my house has just been valued at £465k which is about $750 US. It is a 3 bed semi with no garage in a reasonable location.

you can beat the price down for those to $10-15k. that leaves $12-$15k or so for repairs/maintenance/mods.

driving teh 928 and a G35 aren't gonna be quite the same. you just have to drive one to understand.

Porsche, there is no substitute.
