Low MPG?

Background: I recently purchased my SVx and had the CV joints and fan belts replaced.

What's up: I seem to get only like 200-230 miles before my gas light comes on. I calculated it out today, im getting around 15 mpg

Anything I can do to raise it?

$40/week is kind of expensive (CA gas) and it is my daily driver

Thanks

Hello Gravija,
unfortunately I don't drive much further than you. SVXes get decent gas mileage while traveling on the highway, but become quite thirsty around town.

My advice to you is to check/change your O2 sensors, since faulty sensors will affect gas mileage. Also, check for major leaks on your exhaust and make sure that your cats are not clogged, high flow units will give you some performance and help your gas mileage if your old one is too dirty. You may also want to check out Mike's Reprogrammed ECU Maps, he posts on this board under the nick "longassname" and among his performance chips, Stage I comes with a second map that allows you to safely run 87 octane. Click here to visit his website.

Check also your Fuel Filter, you may want to change it as well as burning a couple of tanks with injector cleaner treatment. A dirty air filter will also affect your mileage. I would go for a stock replacement K&N unit.

Here's an interesting thread about O2 Sensors. You should start from there.

Good luck,

Walter

15-18 is probably all you will get if you are driving in the city only. Mixed (more city) 20-22, All hwy 24-30 (depends on speed and your right foot).

Filters are always a good place to start. Are you getting a check engine light at all? Aside from proper maintenance and laying off the gas, there isn't much you can do. The SVX isn't great for driving around town.
