Unhappy Dropped digital camera in water!!!

My Canon A70 was dropped in some water at the lake today. Sumbmerged for about 5 seconds. Dried it out as much as possible. It won't power back up. What are my options? It's a Canon A70. Anyone have similar experience with Canon/ replacement/ repair?? Suggestions? It's still under manufactuers 12 month warranty but water damage is not covered. Ideas?

yea ya could do that.... I wouldn't open it up though... That would undoubtedly void your warranty

Did you remove the battery before youlet it dry? Also, as long as there isn't any corrosion, electronics (solid-state and boards) will be completely fine if they are submerged, if you allow it to completely dry before trying to apply power. If you feel confident in your electrical skills, you could pick up a quality (flukeor the like) multimeter and check each individual component to find witch one(s) need to be replaced. If you're going to try and get it covered by warrentee, make sure there isn't any condensation behind the lenses, or any mildew or other signs of water damage before you send it back

This advice applies only to the old sytle 35mm cameras: When one of those gets dropped in water, the usual advice is to remove any batteries, submerge and shake it around a bit in distilled water, then ship it to a repair place while still under water in a water tight container. Given you don't want to do that, I could still see some sense (not sure how much tho) to rinse it out in distilled water if the lake wasn't too clear.

I have found that they don't work very good after taking a bath. The same goes for cell phones. Just say not to water!

I sent in my camera a while back (Powershot A20). I flashed the firmware and the camera never turned back on after. It was 60 bucks to look at it and the final bill for them to reflash it came out to $150.

Not cheap .

This was back when 2 mpixel cameras were still in the 400-500 dollar area.
