It's over 40 years that we've been together (36 married) and I love Rosie more now than I did back then.

Here's one for dicussion:

Since emotions, love, hate, etc. are non-coporeal; and matter & energy cannot be detroyed, but only change form; will we continue to love one another in an 'afterlife' ? I sure hope so.

Any metaphysicians out there in SVXland want to tackle that one?

I'll go even further to say that as people, the only thing that really makes us superior to all the other animals in the world is this; We have developed a system of symbols to represent things in our world. Love is just a symbol used to describe certian feelings that we have. Therefore it can be defined diferently by almost everyone.

I have always thought that love is a thing that has to be shared to exist. I figured this out when I was in High School. I thought that I loved this girl that I knew. But she almost always ignored me. Therefore it wasn't love, to me. Now, I don't mess around with that love trash. I am just out to have fun. Even my current girlfriend knows not to say the "L" word around me. I just don't like it. Not at my corrent stage atleast...

I guess your topic was a little to esoteric for the group Larry Can you relate it to something we know, like brake band adjustment or something...Hehe. I dunno about carrying it over. Is love/hate energy? If it were, then perhaps your conservation of energy idea might work...But that would require you to be able to quantify love/hate...Which I don't think is possible, at least in terms of scientific methods...intriguing idea though.

And let me just say congrats on the long loving marriage. After what I've seen go on in my few years on the planet, its nice to know that marriage dosen't always kill the love...

suppose you "fell in love at first sight" with someone, who, upon actually talking to them, you found out was a lying, cheating, stealing, homicidal maniac - still believe it?

its a nice romantic idea, but it only works in retrospect by those who have eventually did fall in love and then look back and say "it was love at first sight!"

Well put! You can't judge someone's personality based on their looks alone, and if you only love someone because of the way they look, then you are a very shallow person.

I am a pessimistic optimistic. I think the worst is going to happen, that way when it does, i don't feel as bad, but if the best happens, i am twice as happy.

I believe in LUST at first sight. I dont think you can love someone until you figure out what their personality is like. That said it is possible to fall in love with a person you once LUSTed for.
