Suspension Rattle

As of late, I have been experiencing several problems of which I believe to be suspension related.

The first of these issues is a slight clunking noise when I go over bumps. To me it sounds like loose parts. I recently had the lower passenger control arm replaced so I will start there. I thinking it could possibly be a worn bushing. What are the symptoms for a worn strut mount?

My other problem is has me worrying a bit more. Upon decceleration (not braking) while slightly turning the wheel to the left, I feel a vibration and thumping noise coming from what seems to be the drivers side front. I am not really sure where to start with this one, could it be a half-shaft?

Any help is greatly appreciated. As I am a poor college student, I can't afford for a shop to tell me what is wrong, so I'm on my own.

Thanks in advance.

I have the same exact problem and I too wonder what the problem may be.

i had a similar problem recently. not quite exactly the same as you describe but very similar. mine was from the driver's side rear tire and the tire was very loose and would shake if you kicked it. turned out to be a loose alignment bolt. see this thread:

good luck,

The wheels are all tight. I tried to move them because I thought it might be a ball joint. No dice.

No not my problem either.... it sounds as if it's the suspension somehow.

Check the brakes

Check all the bolts holding the caliper onto the hub, and the caliper pivot bolt.

Also..The upper pivot pin screws into the caliper carrier and upon just redoing my brakes I found it loose. Now that it is tight, my front end doesn't make the noises it used to.

Check #s 5,6 and 20 on this chart:

Hope that helps

RE: Brakes

I hadn't thought of that. I am doing the rear brakes this weekend so I guess I'll check the fronts as well.

Thanks

It was a ball joint.

Question What & Where?

I'm "mechanically challenged", so could someone tell me what & where this ball joint is?

I'm having my brakes done this week and will mention to the mechanic to check this "balljoint" out, but I'd like to have an idea of what & where it is first.

The ball joint connects the lower a-arm to the steering knuckle. If you put the front end in the air and try to wiggle the wheels they will have a lot of play if the ball joint is bad. If you look closely when you are doing this, you will see the play in the joint.

It is part no. 20206 in this link:
ball joint

This may not be what is wrong with your car, but it is easy to check. It looks like a cheap fix for me, hope you have the same luck. I am also going to change the sway bar bushings. I think this might also be a source of noise suspension.
