Last tranny question before swap..

As i was saying earlier, i was thinkin about doing the 5 spd swap but realized that it was too expensive. I found an auto tranny with the torque convertor flywheel, rear diff for an impreza 93. It has 104,000 kms. I read that the 93 impreza only had 135 Hp. Will this tranny be able to handle the SVX's 230? Feel free if anyone sees any probz with this swap.

AS FAR AS I KNOW, you should be okay. to the best of my knowledge, the auto tranny in the legacy, impreza, and svx are all pretty much identical. the reason for the frequent failure of SVX auto's is that they were designed for smaller, lighter, less powerful cars..

i could be way off base here, so don't take my word for it

compatibility?

Couple of issues

1) mileage on the impreza unit?? if high, you should rebuild it or the 230 HP will rapidly encourage its demise.

2) electronics plug from the trans control loom does not fit the impreza and you will need to try to match wiring diagrams which you MUST have.

Upshot: If its got 100K you are foolish NOT to rebuild it and if you are going to rebuild it, why not do your SVX box: the impreza one is not as strong and its got fewer clutches (I've been told)

I bought a 2002 RS box but got discouraged about the wiring deal: it had only 3000 miles on it: sold for $850 with rear diff, flex plate, driveshaft etc

100,000 is high?

where do i get the wiring diagrams?

do i need the flex plate and driveshaft? mine's an auto

why i don't rebuild it? because I am 17 working for $8.10 an hour. This is a cheaper and easier route and it will make the car faster off the line. The tranny shop quoted me $3000 for a rebuild. In a few months, i'll prolly get this imprezza tranny beefed up.
