shift lever clicking

new problem I was parked on a uphill driveway and needed to reverse out of it. I stepped on the brake pedal and pushed the button on the shift lever and tried to move it to reverse it wouldnt let me. Also ever time you pushed the shift lever button a single click was coming from the dash I finally just pulled it into reverse but something is not right here even if the car is in park and you just depress the shift button it still clicks

I get that too, but it’s just the shift-lock releasing the steering wheel

The steering wheel wasn't in the lock position, if thats what your talking? About the transmission still makes a crunch sound when going from P to R, my foot was fully depressed on the brake pedal and the clicking sound can be done in any gear even in park as long as the key is in the ignition.

Clicking sound is normal - it is interlock solenoids releasing the transmission lever. Playing with brake pedal should give you the same sound

Difficulties moving from P when standing on a hill are also explainable - it is just the weight of the car on the parking paw in
transmission. If you put the car on parking brake firmly while it was still in drive, you would have the car held by parking brake and transmission would easily shift to/from park.

Loud thump sound when moving from P to R is likely torn bushings in the rear of the rear diff - you can see them from behind of the car.

also notice that when you're in P, stepping on the brake will produce a quiet thump noise.. I imagine it's another mechanism which doesn't allow the car to be moved out of P without the brake being on..

and then there's my car which 9 out of 10 times I have to hold the shift release button to move the tranny selector out of park.
