ATF change, need a pump for fll change?
Does one need a pump to do a full fluid change for the ATF?
(the 10 quarts or so) I know a person who is very skilled with cars who will do this for me, but he say he cant do it if he needs a pump.

Henry, a "standard drain & fill" will dump about 6 of the ten quarts, leaving you with 4 quarts of contaminated fluid (that is, if it has not been changed recently). The "pump" method is better (will remove more of the fluid, but still leave a small amount of contaminated fluid). A T-tech (or similar) flush is your best bet for a full fluid replacement option. The Penske shops around here have the "Snap-on Tools" equivalent of the T-Tech. You might check around. I've heard of prices ranging from 69.95 to 200.00 for this service. I paid 69.95 "on sale." If you do decide to go with a T-Tech type service, make sure that the procedure uses the car's transmission to provide the pressure for the flush. Some flushing machines supply their own pressure, which is not good, since an "over pressurizing" of the system could possibly blow seals. (No eddy, don't tell that joke again. )

drain and fill
I did the drain and fill method. I was able to get about 6.5 - 7 quarts out through the drain plug. I put about 6.5 back in, drove around for a week and then did this again. Of course it's not as good as using a pump but it's cheaper (depending on fluid used ) and is a decent alternative especially if your current fluid isn't all that bad. Most important of all you can do this yourself with a minimum set of tools.
