Replacing transmission hoses???

I have the smoke screen effect going on and cant pinpoint the leak. I dont think its the power steering hose because this has been going on for a while and I dont need any p/s fluid. So i'm thinking its a trans hose. I have also noticed that my tranny fluid is really low. I have never looked and was wondering how many tranny hoses their are and if they are hard to replace? Will I be better off just taking it in to Subaru and let them find and replace the problem?

Depends on how your car is set up.

There are two hoses on the inlet & outlet pipes from the transmission that hook back up to metal tubes. These are right by the firewall on the driver's side.

Then there are at least two hoses that run from metal tubes to/from the cooler at the bottom of the radiator. If you have the add-on filter and/or an external ATF cooler then there will be correspondingly more hoses.

None are especially difficult to replace. Just need enough transmission rated hose (pressure & heat make them special), and a few hose clamps. I use the common style of stainless steel clamp that tightens down by using a screwdriver. You tighten them just until the hose begins to swell out through the slots in the clamp. Any more & you risk damaging the pipe, less and it may leak.

And of course be ready to catch/mop up spills when the hoses are removed.
