Price on a 92 Pearly???

Well in my attempts to put my Brat back together from a weekend of abuse 4 wheeling at the Pine Barren's I came across a 92 Pearlie forsale. They want $2k for it. Paint is beautiful except for under the trunk on the bumper where it is starting to peel up a little and a small scrape on the corner of the front bumper. No signs of damage. Just one ding on the rear 1/4 panel. Interior is decent. The arm rests on the door are have some wear as does the driver's seat. Pass seat is nearly perfect. Has an aftermarket CD player. Car has 109k on it.

Now the bad stuff according to the guy:
Has Steering problems
Has Brake problems
Needs new muffler (although it looks pretty good to me from the back)
Needs radiator.

Think it is worth 2k? I'm a sucker for Pearlie. Just need to talk my wife into it. If not and everyone thinks it is a decent deal I'll pass it along to another local who's been looking for an XT6 in this price range. I'm sure I can sway him.

I don't know about blue book, but for me, personally, $2k seems like a fair price.

I decided that after spending the day with the BRAT (putting on a slightly used "new: master cylinder and bleeding the brakes) plus the better half to deal with Dave gets first dibs (the guy who wants the XT. If he doesn't want it I'll work on the little lady. This is gonna cost me big though I'm sure.

Re: Price on a 92 Pearly???

Sounds like a decent deal to me... with a few caveats...

Possibly a bad PS pump? O-Ring? Maybe loose or old accessory belt (had to replace mine almost the day I got it home)

Has Brake problems
Probably either pads or missing shims (causes noise from the brakes). Not unusual. Could also need bled.

Could it be the heatshields rattling or possibly a bad resonator? Normally, the muffler doesn't go bad particularly quickly in the SVX exhaust... but every SVX I've ever owned has toasted its resonator around 100K miles or before, and the heatshields DO loosen over time. Could be worth checking.

Needs radiator.
Cooling problems could be so much more than the radiator. Water pump? Low water/antifreeze?

All in all... I think the information given is a little vague. Sounds like he's trying to give you solutions... not symptoms. What he thinks is wrong and what actually might be wrong are more often than not two totally different things.

Hope this helps

Yeah, a lot of the stuff seems like solutions but it is where I take my XT and Brat to get fixed (the SVX never needs fixed). This is all stuff the mechanic told the owner of the dealership that it needed just from a quick once over. He really hates selling SVXs but someone traded it in I'm thinking. The place only deals in Subies.

Yeah, I do agree that he might know what he's talking about... but my experience is that even a Subie shop may not necessarily be experienced with the SVX specifically. It has a lot of quirks that are... shall we say unique?

Personally I'd definitely go check it out if it's not too far away... check the symptoms for yourself and make a determination if it's worth it

Then again... you're taking advice from a guy who put over 1000 miles on his (latest) SVX in the first 28 hours he owned it... so my opinion of SVX's in general might be a little biased

The mechanic knows his stuff at least moderately on the SVX. He knows enough not to rebuild a tranny. They really aren't as unique as one would think. Its is really just a combination of the Legacy and XT6 with Italian styling. Oh I'm taking a friend to look at it today. He's coming down from a couple hours north as I write. He gets first dibs then I gotta make a decision on what goes and what stays. I'm only allowed to have 3 cars at a time.

Hi, I'm Dave, and thanks to Ben this 92 Pearl White SVX will be mine this week sometime.

They need to fix a massive fuel leak that we noticed after the test drive, and then the car and all of the other issues belong to me.

YEAH!!!!!!!

Got home from work and there was a message from the dealer that the fuel leak is fixed!!! Apparently there was a crack in the HP fuel line that someone decided to patch with duct tape

I should be picking it up on Friday or Saturday, I can't wait!!
