CE light

You know, I've been meaning to just ask the car what codes it's got stored, but I've been so busy I really haven't had the chance. So here is my symptom.

My check engine light comes on. It'll stay on for varying lengths of time, but it's always while the car is warming up. Sometimes it goes out and comes back on, but it always turns off within a couple minutes.

Does this sound familiar to anybody?

Actually, I can add a symptom. Now the car's hard to start sometimes when it's cold. Hmm...this is starting to sound familiar...sort of...

Well, sort of, yeah. Except that the CE light isn't on all the time.

Well, now I have a new symptom, and until I figure it out, my SVX will sit in the garage.

I got to leave work early last night - 1:30AM - and I started the car. Or at least I tried to. It was very hard to start and then it sputtered and died. But before it died it made this horrible whining/moaning sound that kept up after it died. I hit start again and it fired right up. A couple seconds after it started, the noise went away.

It drove fine on the way home, but I swear the whistling noise it makes under light throttle was more pronounced. Noboby's ever been able to explain that one to me, either.

Was it foggy or humid outside? You may have a cracked air hose somewhere. There are tons of hoses under the manifold running every which way. If one is cracked, you could be sucking air.

Doug, this sound was way to loud and mechanical to be a leaking hose.
