what tire size?

i got some new rims they are 18-8s with a 48 offset. what tire size should i get? 225/40/18 or 335/40/18. or any othe suggestions

Assuming you meant 235 and not 335.

Mathematically:
stock is 24.86" tall
the 225's are 25.09" tall
the 235's are 25.40" tall

If you don't mind going slower and risk rubbing depending on your offset go 235's. I would personally recommend the 225's unless you can find a 35 series. (235/35-18 = 24.48" or 245/35-18 = 24.75")

225/40/18 would be my choice. I was going to say 235/35/18 is also close but they are very rare and over $200.00 per tire.

Either is a good choice, 225 is what Subaru put on the 17x8 STi wheels. I have 245/40/17's on my BBS rims (17x8), and really like the size. The tire does "bulge" out from the wheel a tiny amount (only noticeable if you know it's there, otherwise they look very square), but this helps protect the rims. I nudged a couple curbs at toll stations and the extra tire width was enough to keep the rims clear.

I have 225 40 18's and they fit perfectly! I have noticed, though, that not all tires are created equally when it comes to fit. I have Continental Conti Sport Contact 2, and they are perfectly square. I noticed that Mike621 got Toyo Proxes 4 in the same size, and they're clearly stretched. We both have 18x8" wheels.

This is due to the rim used to measure the tire's dimensions. There's no set standard for what width of wheel must be used to to measure the tire when it's installed, so it might vary by 1/2 or even 1" from one tire maker to another, giving inconsistent dimensioning.

I've had NeoGen 225/45/17 on my '06 Vibe for 2 years and they are excellent. You can even rotate them to all four corners for longer wear.
