engine not starting due to no fuel.

My wife was driving the SVX and she was cut off by another driver. She slammed on the brakes and the engine cut off. She was able to restart the car and get home but now it will not start at all.

Engine cranks and sparks. I took some starter fluid and sprayed it into the intake and it started up. I removed the fuel filter and tested the fuel flow and it seems like the fuel pump is not working. The fuses are fine and everything was working great until she was cut off. Now I am not sure what happened when she tried to restart it or why is cut off.

Any clues besides replace the fuel pump?

BW

Re: engine not starting due to no fuel.

Perhaps check the connections on the top of the fuel pump?

Re: engine not starting due to no fuel.

Try switching out the relay with another one, or make sure the relay is getting 12V with the key on. The worst case scenario is her slamming on the brakes may have caused the fuel take sediment to stir up and clog the intake screen, stressing the pump and killing it. Some cars have an inertial shutoff for the fuel pump in case of accidents, but she drove it home so that wouldnt be it.

Re: engine not starting due to no fuel.

Checked the connector for the fuel relay. The blue and black wires has less than 1 volt with the key on.

Socal, where is the fuel relay located?

Thanks

Re: engine not starting due to no fuel.

??? You mean you checked the connector to the fuel pump right? I think theres a resistor and modulator in the trunk that should be checked as well, they need to have good grounds and maybe one was jarred loose. Ive never run into this issue so hopefully someone else could chime in. Have you looked at the wiring diagrams for the fuel pump in the SVX online manual? If you havent already...download it and look in "electrical component locator". It should list the relays and switches present. The fuel pump relay is under the driver side steering column to the right I think.

Re: engine not starting due to no fuel.

I tested the connector with a multimeter.

The wires to the fuel pump are a black and a blue one.

on a side note, I took an old fuel pump from an EA82 and hooked up the wires from the connector that power the fuel pump. EA82 pump turned on and tried to pressurize the system. I never even got that with the SVX pump. Looks like I have a dead fuel pump.

Looking at a walbro one right now. Funny thing is that it's cheaper than a OEM one from autozone.

Re: engine not starting due to no fuel.

Ive never heard of a fuel pump being killed by a hard stop Did you see any clogging on the inlet screen or sediment in the tank?

Re: engine not starting due to no fuel.

yeah it sounds weird.

but based on the fact that a spare pump would cycle on and the SVX pump will not cycle on, I am calling this one a dead fuel pump.

I haven't taken the old pump out yet. I found a walbro on ebay from TREperformance Inc. for 78.98 and it's free shipping. They are located in Costa Mesa so I should get it quick.

Can somebody pinpoit where these relays are? I seem to be having a similar issue right now and knowing where these are could be a huge help. Thanks!
