Freedom is a funny thing. I do like the reference to driving though. It is considered a privilege to be able to drive on public roads. So you must obey the laws put into place to maintain that priviledge. Same with this site. It is a priviledge to be able to post here, you must obey by the rules they have put into effect in order to maintain that same priviledge.

Thank you Tom - that was explained very well.

Yes. I do.

And no, I am not.

The founding fathers had lived through a regime where the ability to speak out against the ruling legislative body was prohibited. The concept and voice of an opposition to an oppressive regime was repressed.

So they enshrined the right in your new constitution to speak out against the ruling party/regime as a foil against manipulative governmental bodies. They called this right "free speech".

It was never meant to be the ability to say what you like when you like against another individual.

The "right to bear arms" is another phrase in your constitution that is freely misinterpreted, disregarding the rationale and use of militia before your Civil War.

Hey, but I'm a gun person, so I don't go there.....

actually, you do have the right to say what you like (for the most part - threatening to kill people is a no-no), but that doesn't mean you should say certain things out of common decency.

also doesn't guarantee you won't get your mouth punched loose for saying the wrong thing to the wrong person.

My interpretation is you can say whatever you want whenever you want, even here, but you reap what you sew. If someone shuts you up it might be because you said something stupid. That's worth considering.

Re: Trevor has been given a time out.

Well this shall be my last post on this thread, as admins will always have the final word. I do get the point that I am bound to the terms of use set forth by the moderators of this forum. So maybe we can agree to disagree, but in the end the moderators will prevail. I don't mean to disrespect anyone here, this all started for me when I asked how you could actually ban someone. I believe I proved my point and thats all that really matters to me.

So long and goodnite............

Re: Trevor has been given a time out.

Maybe the best reply should have been - We don't allow them to post here for the time they are in a time out. They can still read the posts etc.

The other point I will make is that this is not some public site that just sprang up out of nowhere, but has been paid for by donating members, donations, fund raisers, and by others in the back ground. The quest for a great site where members can post and not get eaten alive for what they say is quite unique for many groups. If you have visited some of the others, if you make a statement that some don't like or agree with, you are flamed right off of the forum. We want this to be a safe and enjoyable site where people can learn about this great car without fear.

Re: Trevor has been given a time out.

Well, the main reason for putting up this thread was visibility; we so rarely do any banning round here we are hoping that members will understand what has happened, and this will hopefully lead to people observing the rules and getting along better while on the forum.

Alan is right, the rules use terms such as "flaming" and "baiting" which are internet forum words, not too clearly defined in law perhaps.

This looseness of definition is on purpose. We left the rules simple and open because we actually want people to be free to express their position or opinion. And we let things run on a bit, giving plenty of latitude, in the hope that members will sort their own issues.

This particular issue was never sorted and we eventually and reluctantly had to apply the rules.

The other reason for this thread is so that members who support Trevor can also say their piece. There are two sides to every story, no harm in exploring all sides and all angles.

Joe

Re: Trevor has been given a time out.

Just a final comment. There is an old saying that goes something like "Be sure brain is engaged before putting mouth in gear." I think that holds here. I've been on this site for a year now, and while I occasionally disagree with something someone has posted, I'm not going to start a shouting contest. That's non-productive.

Thanks Tom, I was wondering when someone was going to point this out. This site is owned and operated by individuals that have the right to exercise the rules they put in place. Simple as that and its the same for any forum on the Internet.

Right. Slander is something you can end up in court for, if you dont get your lights knocked out first.

A much simpler term that I like is Karma.

I'm guilty of it myself, on other forums. Get over it, move on. Life is to short to get your panties in a bunch over stuff like this

Someone tried to correct you on the "reap what you sew" thing. They said it should be "reap what you sow"
They didn't get it right either...

I believe it is "rip what you sew"
at least that is the way it always turns out for me

I thought it was sow at first, but then I thought I was getting it confused with a pig and changed it.

That shows the absolute cussedness of English; we have the exact same word "sow" describing two different things. One word is a verb; the other word is a noun. Although the spelling is exactly the same the pronunciation is totally different and the use is different.

It must be incredibly difficult for people coming from the simpler structures of the romance languages.
