EJ swap into an SVX

Ok. Has this been done?

I got an SVX w/a dead engine. I was trying to figure out whether I should get another EG33 and put it in there or get an EJ20 WRX turbo motor.

I realize that the EJ will require harness merging and electrical work to make run, but that’s no biggie since I have swapped an EJ into a BRAT and a RX.

Will the motor mounting slots in the SVX crossmember allow for the EJ to just slide in there or will this have to be modified?

The goal would also be to do a 5 spd swap at the same time.

Just imagine the space I would have in the engine bay to put a massive FMIC or whatever I wanted.
Imagine…. a gignormous NOs bottle or sequential triple turbos or a reservoir for an air-water intercooler.

Anyways what issues in terms of mechanical fitment are we looking at do make this work?

When I spoke to him he said everything was just about done... the car just wont start so he needs to double check a few things.

I wonder how an SVX would do with an EZ30? About the same HP, but a smaller, lighter package... Just a thought, turbo motor would be cooler...

Off topic... but wanted to continue the "imagine if" theme of the very first post....

Imagine the potential of the EG33? Imagine it realized?

I would not want to see a EJ in a SVX. I would guess it would be really hard on the engine due to the body weight. I would however rather see a EZ in one. EZ30D was I think 220-235HP and the EZ30R is 245HP with variable valve timing. Ones simpler to wire up and the other is more powerfull. I"m doing a EZ30R in my Impreza but would only ever keep the EG33 in the SVX. Food for thought.

What they call it a vanity-plate. Shouldn't I be obligated to be vane with it?

Re: EJ swap into an SVX

the new sti is close in weight to the svx...Im sure the turbo 4 banger wouldnt mind lugging around another person's worth of weight. Of course, from what ive read in other swap threads, the sti's motor...turbo and intercooler included, weigh about 40 pounds less thn the eg33

Interesting. I'm assuming that the transmission and drive train of the STi are far more efficient in harnessing the power of the motor and putting it to the ground though.

Well it does produce roughly 300hp and 300lbft torque... And those numbers are usually underrated as many people find out when they dyno their stock SVX...

As for putting one of those engines into an SVX, good luck with it. Yes, technically speaking it should "drop right in"... And it will bolt up to any Subaru tranny you want to put behind it (assuming that it is a 6MT or an Auto - unless you want to replace the 5MT alot)...

Wiring... This is the part that I would be scared to get into... Infact I had the opportunity to do this very swap back in 2004 when I had a little "bump" in the mountains... I had the $$$, I had the engine (well, hadn't bought it yet), I had the shop to do it and everything... But the one thing I didn't have was the guts to look at my baby get her engine ripped out and replaced my something that was going to make the driving experience VERY different and was going to get rid of the wonderful Flat-6 scream I have come to love...

I have driven MANY WRX's and STi's and I can tell you from experience that I wouldn't want my SVX to drive like that... The noise of the Boxer-4 just doesn't "fit" the SVX's beautiful lines... The power you would get out of the swap in the mid-upper RPM range would be AWESOME, but it would be nothing but headaches over time...

If you want to make this a track car / weekend car then by all means do it... But I tell you, go drive a WRX or an STI before you try and take on a task such as this... It isn't as simple as just dropping in a new motor...

To be honest, you will see more driveline loss out of the 6mt than the 5mt with just a little less than the 4eat

Re: EJ swap into an SVX

It would be expensive, but an ez36 would be awsome in the SVX.* Lighter than an ez30, more power, much more tourqe, and lightyears better in design than the ez30, all on 87 octain if you want or tuned for 92 octain for unlocked performance.
