OT: Outback warning lights

A few days ago the CE light came on in my wife's '05 Outback. I was...surprised, to say the least. The cruise control light started blinking at the same time. Both remained that way until I read and cleared the stored codes. There was a 'too rich' code stored for each bank. I cleared them to see if they came back, and so far they haven't.

The CE light I think I understand. A certain fault occurred multiple times, or was severe enough, that the light stayed on to show that it was storing a fault code. The cruise control light, however, I'm not so sure about. Was the light flashing to tell me that cruise was disabled because the engine was in a limp-home mode? That's my guess so far.

Cruise control by vacuum lines and a little cylander on the back of the engine bay. Check to make sure no hoses popped off, if so fix it and problems hould go away. I'd clear the codes to see if they come back, sometimes they're just flukes.

So does the cruise work? Did it work when the light was on?

I wish people wouldn't guess at this stuff.

The current-gen Legacy and Outback have throttle-by-wire setups. There is no vacuum line to the cruise control. As a matter of fact, you can't even see the cruise control because the throttle is only opened by one servo.

Yes, I cleared the codes to see if they were 'flukes.' I suspect they were. What I want to know is why the cruise control light was blinking on the dash. I suspect it was because the ECU disabled cruise - it didn't work while the light was blinking.

The Cruise Control light flashes when there is a new code registered in the newest Subarus. It does disable the cruise control, as well. There is nothing wrong with that system.

That tells me I should bring my OBD-II code reader on every road trip from now on, just in case there are any more 'flukes' and I'd like to use my cruise control.

And how does this relate to our SVXi? Maybe because of the original poster. Anyone else would have been moved to the appropriate NON SVX thread.

Somehow a blinking light to tell you that the battery is low seems...counterproductive.

I had no idea that the cruise control light was used to warn the driver about so many other things.

Fine. I will get my technical questions together about my Ford if this is now the precedent. Any vehicle question can be asked in this forum--provided it is technical???? Is that the official new policy????????????
