Man, talk about inflation. I dug-up my old receipt last night and found that I paid $14.99 + tax for item WT5056 at O'Reilly in January of 2005.

Thanks for trying! Had I not been able to track them down, that would have been most helpful!

Wow, that is cheap! Oh well, I'll be saying the same thing when some schmoe has his go out in 2019, lol!

OK, well the small one is a 13mm, not a 12mm, and you'll definitely need DEEP sockets for both...

That said; I got the smaller one off with no problem, but after a few rotations, the new one got tight, so I threaded it back out - no crossed threads and it all looked OK, so I put it back in...Same place it tightened up a bit, but the old one was a bit tight coming off, too, so I kept going.

If this happens to you...STOP. This sensor is not only brass, it is HOLLOW and will shear off very easily. Yup...I snapped it clean off.

I'm picking up an easy-out and we'll see what we're dealing with later this afternoon. I'm definitely going to have to re-order the part, and I hope I don't have to re-tap the part it goes in to.

--

I know it's not the car's fault, but I haven't averaged 5K/yr on this thing, and I've been trying to use it as a daily driver. It's been down more than up, and I know the minute I give up on it and sell it, it'll be all fixed and not give the new owner any problems, but I don't know how much more I can take.

I LOVE this car, but I NEED something reliable for work.

If there's anyone who wants a beautiful swapped '92 pearlie with a few minor issues still lingering, please let me know.

***UPDATE***

Got the ECU coolant temp sensor (the one with the plastic plug) replaced - it's STILL doing it.

Cleaned the MAF and checked the air filter (dingy but not too bad)...

Dunno what else to do...

So...I guess I've got a fueling problem...Anyone know where the fuel pressure regulator(s) and fuel pump(s) are located? This is my next step.

Really reaching the end of my rope with this thing...again...

Michael, we are all with you on this so take heart.

Is there anything not absolutely normal with regard to idling speeds, e.g. engine hot/cold, air conditioning on/off? If all is not OK in this area, the idle air control circuit will be a cause for concern.

Stick with it. Cheers,Trevor.

Thanks Trevor!
All that seems to be OK most of the time...
Of course when it's been parked warm and then is asked to get me somewhere it won't even keep running, much less idle properly.
Where's the IAC circuit located and how is it serviced?

Anyone know where the FPRs and fuel pump(s) are and how to service them?

Thanks!

Any new news on this problem? My 1994 SVX LSi has started doing the same thing a couple of weeks ago. Last year it was kind of doing the same thing but once it stalled it wouldn't re-start. Found out that the battery was bad, replaced the battery and it seemed fine. Thought there was another issue, could have been the alternator, it ended up being the alternator belt. It was fine all year until the cold weather started here in Oregon.

Now, when I start up in the morning it's fine, make it to work without problems, etc. On the way home, it idles funny and if I don't keep the RPMs up it stalls but is easy to re-start without a problem, just have to keep my feet on both pedals. (Not safe driving if you ask me). Anyhow, took it in - swapped alternators with my boyfriend's SVX's alternator for the weekend until they can get a new one in and all seemed fine until last night when again, after using it during the day with no problems, in the evening (lights on, heat on low) it did it again. Stalled but restarted without a problem and kept stalling when I came to a stop sign or red light.

Any ideas?? This is really frustrating and I'm afraid it's going to cost a lot of money...what else is new, right? I should also mention that even when I have my foot on the gas it seems like it just doesn't want to go. At other times it does crazy things when I try and accelerate, RPMs go nuts, etc.......

I've been reading this thread and have some good ideas and I'm sure my awesome mechanic, Richie, will get it solved but want more ideas of what could be doing this.

Thanks!!

Hi Heidi! Unfortunately no news yet...

I'm waiting on a good MAF to swap in and try, we'll see if that does it.

Some things I've been told could cause this so far...

* Coolant Temp Sensor
* Vacuum Leak
* Loose Intake Manifold Bolt
* Bad MAF (loose solders)

I'll be updating this thread as time goes on - unless I drop the car altogether - my "new" 4.44 swap is now not wanting to shift, and the fluid isn't low.

I have two known good Legacy MAF's back at my apartment. One is metal and the other is a plastic JECS. They both work, just makes the car throw a code for improper airflow sensor. I drove with the CEL on with the metal one for a few months - car drove fine. I could mail it out to you if you needed it for testing (I would need it returned in the case that mine broke :P)...

MAF is here, cleaned (just for insurance) and IN.

I noticed swapping them that the raised square section on mine is cracked.

I drove it around to warm it up, have let it sit, and will be leaving for work shortly - we should know more tomorrow.

THANKS!

Early this morning, barely 50*F and rather humid, the car ran the best it ever has since I bought it. Could be that MAF, the weather, any combination...Don't know. I won't get to drive it in normal conditions until Thursday at the earliest, but I'm loving it right now!

...Actually turned over the tires leaving a light at 1/2 throttle! Damn, I love these cars!
