Argh. I need to go recheck my sources, and second-guess what is on my car.

Mazda RX-7
Production 1978–2002
811,634 produced

There is no point singling out any model or generation, as the SVX only had one generation. Of those 3, only the NSX is more rare, and probably because it was way too expensive.

Check on the windshields, the only way to tell if they are solarized is from what trim level they came from. L models are not solarized but maybe be either blue or bronze.

BUT!

Solar tint is standard on OBD2 SVXs, L or LSi.
I have no idea whether titanium alloy was discontinued at any time during production.

Seems all '92 and '93 models had the titanium windshield with the cheaper tinted windshield coming along in '94 model year. Were not all '92 and '93 OEM windshields bronze in color?

Color of the glass corresponds to the interior color. Tan interiors got bronze glass, grey interiors got blue.
My new windshield is bronze, which influenced my color choice in wheels. They match.
But the factory glass was blue.

Back to '92 models, didn't they all come with dark grey interiors? And didn't they all come with bronze (titanium) windshields? Wonder where we could find statistics on this issue? Any suggestions?

Absolutely not.

My '92. Grey interior, blue windows all around. Which I think looks best.

I will tell you how far this issue extends.

I bought the last available "new" windhshield in America, which is why I got the wrong color. There are no more. This means any windsheild you will buy will come off a parted SVX. 94-95 L trim SVXs will not have solarized glass regardless of color.
The color of the glass be it blue or bronze depends on the color of the interior, which usually depends on the color of the car, ie red cars got tan interiors which correspond with bronze glass. I am not sure but I think the only exception is black cars, which may have either grey or tan interiors. Teal cars for example will not have tan interiors or bronze glass.

Someone is selling unsolarized, standard green tint glass which confused me earlier. I think that may be 1stSubaruparts.com, ~$600.

Close but no cigar. Claret svxi had bronze glass from 92 up. Im pretty sure claret was the only color to get bronze glass in 92 (Someone correct me if Im wrong)

Grey or tan depending on year, yes. 92 svx in black has the blueish grey tint, the 94 and up w/ tan interior got bronze

Now that my input has been put in, let the discussion continue

Oh. Righto....back on topic. Um...your best bet is to find a member in your area that'll let you test drive their car. Thats a great way to decide weather or not it's the car for you. You'll either love it, or hate it. Or mabey you'll think it's okay. At the very least, we hope you find it more intresting than...say....the physics of rotor wear, or the exact specifications of colored glass

I don't know where you got the last available "new" winshield in America from but a quick search on www.partsvoice.com shows these dealers have these in stock currently. That doesn't include what would be at Subaru warehouses. Funny thing though Subaru doesn't list a part number for solarized or unsolarized glass in my parts book.

Well, hell that's what the dealer told me. At the time, I was told there is one windsheild available, in Salt Lake City.
Maybe those are not solarized? Maybe they are used? Why would they not be in a Subaru warehouse?

That's just it, only 3 part numbers in my book one for bronze, green and blue. Me thinks your dealer was fibbing though as windshields won't be the first parts to disappear. Subaru makes too much money on them since they have been the only supplier to this point.
