Today's problem: 24/7 FWD

I finally got my engine running well enough to try a launch to verify that the AWD in my Outback tranny is working. It's not. If I put a FWD fuse in, the FWD light does not come on. The Power light does flash indicating Duty Solenoid C(just like with the SVX trans that came out), but it also doesn't have a resistor behind the battery. I actually noticed this problem before I ran 2 quarts low on ATF due to broken hose two days ago. I guess I'll go check the wiring first. From what I've read, it seems when Solenoid C fails it goes 50/50 and not FWD so I'm hoping its just electrical. But on the bright side, I did only pay $800 for this car.

Unfortunatley, I realize that's a possibility. But doesn't the fact that the FWD bulb doesn't illuminate indicate it could be electrical?

Is the "FWD" dash light supposed to come with all the other dash lights when you turn the key on?

Subyfan is right... If the solenoid seizes while in an open positions it will cut lie pressure to the transfer clutchs and thus...FWD. So my suggestion is to get a new sol. C nd transfer valve. If thats going to be too expensive, than find a used one...

Thanks guys. I printed out that 90 page 4eat manual from Lee's locker, so I'm going to try the electrical route first..........that is if I ever stop working.

Some good news for a change.

I measured resistance on duty solenoid C and it came up as open. But I called the dealer to get the part # for my 97 Outback tranny and there were 3 choices. They determined that it was the one that has the same part # as the SVX. So I can just drop the one in from my spare tranny for only the cost of gaskets.
