If the car's a rust bucket, I probably wouldn't bother trying to fix any of it. For me, I'd much prefer mechanical issues over rust because the former can be fixed with new or rebuilt parts. The latter requires much more work, which means either time, money or both.

That being said, I have a small rust spot on my right quarter. It's just paint bubbles so far, and I know it's because the car had bodywork after the previous owner's several accidents. I thought about having the whole quarter replaced, but as Danny said it's not worth the risk. I don't drive the car that much any more, and certainly not in winter, so I think patching it up would last a good long time.

Do you remember Kuoh's pearlie? He posted his rusted quarter panel pic before and after. He only got it fixed like $200? I would like to see how bad is your rust from your picture compare to his. If it's so bad, remember to put a pretty flower beside do it like kuoh.

My yellow one has rust/bubble on the rear quarter panel too. Still no hole. If it gets bad, surely looks awful for a bright color. The bodyshop friend I told you is the best route I would go....I think when I get enough money, I would talk to him again.

I'll take a picture of all the rust spots to let you evaluate. To me this fender cannot be saved.
