Hopped on the Waterfall Grill Bandwagon

Yeah, I painted it. Wasn't too gung ho about it because I have always thought that is what made the front end of the car stand out to me. But after painting it black, I think I am in love. Here are some pics that I took right after I finished letting the paint dry. Sorry if they look a little blurry, my camera doesn't have an auto focus.

Still going to take a little getting used to.

Good work... even though it is blurrrrry
I always thought that the painted waterfall looked real strange, but the two tone look makes it less odd for some reason. It is the big solid area that gets to me, so the black helps seperate it a bit i guess.

Grille

Hi UFO, I think it would look better if it was body color. Black is just to stark unless it was a black car. IMO Take care, BOBB

That is an interesting look. I would have to agree that the body color would look good too. It would be more like the 97 grill that way.

+1

It seems like the waterfill is a bit "chubbier" than the '97 version.

Glad you had the guts to do it first. I am thinking about it.....still don't know if I will. I think it might look better if it matched the car, though yours doesn't look that bad!

The main reason I did it in black is because it is the only other color than red that I have readily available. The other factor is that matching a regular and pearl coat will be too difficult. My car is mainly white and kinda figured that painting it black will better offset the white. I just used cheapo spraypaint and plan on tinkering with white as well, but you never know. The black may grow on me and I may just end up leaving it as is.

The black mesh behind the clear is another reason I wanted to leave it with the black look. This way I won't have to fight to spray into all the nooks and crannies to get the look I want.

I just thought about it, I think I might dremel out the mesh and leave the waterfall look with the surrounding solid plastic. That might look really good.

I highly recommend you get the lacquer spray and do couple of coats over the black

hmmm, i might be jumping on that bandwagon too (but if you start heading towards sobriety i'm going to get off) I like the black grill on the white car, i cant find a good match for the pearlie (which is why i havent had my fender painted) so maybe i'll paint it black for now and get a 2nd grill to paint white (or get the overpriced grille at SVX warehouse)

We have some matte silver duct tape that my dad used on the headlights of my brother's race car i might try using before painting it. It comes off easily and looks great on the race car (its white with blue vinyl) so its worth a shot.

I jumped the bandwagon back in febuary plus mine has modifications for better cooling. It actually came off of Svxfiles S/C claret.

I'll get some better pics of it soon for those of you that won't be at Reading to see it.

While I agree that a painted grill looks better than the cyclops grill, I think that it would be better if it matched the car.

Why not drop by a body shop and see how much to match the paint, can it be that expensive?

I was told $100 to paint the grill. This was because they had to mix the paint. They also said it would be much cheaper if they had to do multiple pieces. This was the place that previously did body work on my car.

I plan on getting a hold of a body shop a few months down the road, but for now, CV axles and fluid flushes are the main focus for me to invest money into.
