Big dumb SUVs

Last night I decided it would be good to go to the local BI-LO and get some milk, cereal, etc. for the morning. I had been out earlier and parked on the street in front of my apartment. Now though there was a big dumb SUV with a trailer hitch on the back, parked maybe five inches in front of me. I had backed in kind of funny, with the back wheel against the curb so I couldn't roll back. So I must have hit the guy's stupid trailer ball thing about ten for fifteen times before I finally got outta there. The first time I hit it I was like, "well, shoot" and kept putting little dents in my front bumper, then I started to get a little frustrated because it was taking forever to get around that SUV, and I think I put some bigger dents in it. So now, in conjunction with a door ding I have a few little ellipses-shaped impressions in my front bumper. If I see that SUV again I think I'm going to saw off his trailer hitch. Grrr. Oh well, SVX is just a car and I'll forget about it in a week. Whatever. back to work!

I do have to defend the poor SUV. Its not its fault. Its the driver that is bad.

I have been parked in many times by hondas and escorts, so its no different,

Also, I have a F150 extended cab with a long bed. That's 23 feet of pure parking nightmare, yet I can parallel park it without encroaching on anyone's space (at least 3 feet between).

The problem is I need to drive around a lot longer to find a spot to park. Most drivers are too lazy and just squeze into a spot that works for them and the hell with the others.

I do take the hitch out of the receiver when I'm not towing. I've hit enough shins to know that much.

BTW: I will buy an Excursion when they drop down to $8-10K for a loaded one... not too much longer. I will also have it full when I drive it.

Me, Amy, three Mastiffs, our luggage and you?

It may be a bit cramped and smelly back there. At least the dogs would have a snack during the long trips

Hey they're working on the huge truck manuevering problems. GM now has an All-Wheel-Steering system available on all their full size trucks. it's a $6500 add-on, but if your paying $45,000 for your Tahoe already, that's probably not that big of a deal to you. Also, the difference it makes is phonomenal. An extended cab short bed silverado can turn in a tighter circle than a Grand Prix. That's amazing. It creates a very strange feeling. You kinda feel like you are driving on ice. Then try backing up and turning...there's nothing stranger than seeing the back end of your truck turning away from you. But it's a blast to drive.

I wouldn't have worded it like that. However, should any of you become boxed in by cars in the future, don't try and squeeze by to get out. Especially if you think you're going to hit the other car. You're not only damaging your own vehicle, but somebody elses, and I have enough scrapes and scratches on my bumper caused by the previous owner to prove it.
