Also quite seprate from that reason, caps have a safety mechanism which "kicks out" once it reaches the correct torque.. this is to be sure that the cap is secure but not overtightend. I have heard of this mechanism breaking and the cap just spins instead of unscrewing.

So I beat on the cap with a rubber mallet and got the cap loose, but broke the black handle part in the process. But I am happy now that I am able to drive it at least.
So can I go to the local parts store and get a cap, or does subaru use special metric threads on the cap so I have to go to the dealer? |
