Well, in retrospect, I was "pampering" my car and out of the blue the big light comes on that says "I need a new alternator"

How about that

Oh well, all better now.

I could just stand in the garage all night, stare at the car in it's unfortunate down time and still love the car. Heck, when I was waiting on a tranny last year, I would just stand and stare in amazement.....

I wouldn't say I love it

If I were stupid enough to spend that kind of money on 15 pieces of chrome plated metal that has no moving parts it would be MAC that I choose.

So, is this brand loyalty from employees or ex-employees? Or am I just a retard for buying Craftsman tools?

They're shiny, I find that they are well-made and I dig the idea of having a national chain of stores I can take a broken screwdriver to and have it replaced.

Craftsman is a good tool for the money, comparatively. There are wrench sets out there that are much less expensive than Craftsman that are just as good. It's just hard to find someone that'll sell them to you and even harder to have them warrantied. (sp?) Once you use a MAC or Snap-On (notice who I listed first ) you'll appreciate the difference. Whether or not you appreciate it enough to pay the difference is another story....

I also imagine it's entirely different for people who depend on those tools to make a living. In that case, I can see spending more for a more comfortable wrench, or one that stays shiny longer.

Well I'll jump in as a Ex-Craftsman salesman! No arguements here, everyone has hit it right on I think. For people that make a living and use their tools every day, their are better alternatives than Craftsman.... but for a whole lot more money!

I worked the hardware dept. at Sears for 6 years in my high school/college days and heard all the good and bad from customers. Never any complaints though when we would unconditionally no questions asked give them a shiny new hand tool if they asked. Sometimes it wouldn't even be technically broken, but we stuck by the "customer is always right" policy. I could go on all day with stories of the experience but I won't. The oldest tool I ever replaced? A 1/2" ratchet. Didn't look anything like anything we'd seen, to reverse it, you had to pull the part that holds the socket out of the gears and insert it back in the opposite side. The thing weighed a ton too, much better quality than anything Craftsman made since. We looked it up in the old catalog archives and couldn't find one like it until the mid 1930's I believe. It belonged in a museum, but this old fella insisted he didn't want it and just give him his replacement. So he traded in this cool antique for a $17 one of the rack.

we all know it is easier said than done.

keeping your foot out of the svx is no easy task. the car loves to be driven fast, especially on the highway. i hit the century mark more than i need to but it is such a joy. anyway i will start driving a little slower.

i just had my right headlight go out......the left one went out about five months ago. what is the frequency of replacement on these?

I'd guess something over 100Mhz. Anyway they're about the same as the originals.

Happy to help.

i guess my question was a little misleading.

what i was asking is how often are people replacing their headlight bulbs?

thanks anyway for the technical answer steve.

I have had to replace the low beams in my car twice now. Once was with some APC (garbage) 'xenon' lamps. They sucked. Yeah, they were white, but the actual output was poor. I switched to the PIAA Platinum lamps and they're been fine since.

I have not had to replace either my high beams or my driving lights, but they get used less frequently. I never turn my lights off, so the low beams get turned on and off no matter what time of day it is.

i do the same thing.....

i keep all my lights on at all times. i just dont want to deal with turning them on and off.

if i only have to do this once every couple of years it is really not that big of a deal.

I fully recommend the PIAA lamps. They're a little more expensive than what you can get at Wal*Mart, but I think they're worth it. Not as white as the stupid APCs I had, but definitely way more light. I will likely replace my high beams with them someday.

I think the place I ordered them from was www.autobulbdepot.com.
