de-pressed
it turned out not to be a simple broken belt. the best guess is that a pully went awry and eventually the cooling/water etc. belt broke but in such a way that it was half on and then sprung off and got wrapped around a sort of strut in the engine compartment near the pully and the result was that the timing belt got screwed up and other parts (i forgot exactly which and i haven't seen the car since it was towed) that are plastic gummed things up more. the botttom line is a new timing bwlt, h2o pump and related damaged parts totalling $1,400.00. yes, someone will say something about the mechanic, but i've dealt with him for 4 years and trust him. i told him to fix the car, i like it too much.
