What tires to buy?
Before the snow flies, I need to get 4 new tires. Does anyone have any recommendations for tires? I'll have to get some that are fairly good in the snow.

Blizzaks Bridgestone/Firestone make. Or were you looking for tires year round as those are mostly winter tires(not studded but designed for snowy weather)

If price, all-season traction and handling are important check out the new Goodyear Assurance Triple Tred. It uses three different tread compounds to provide unsurpassed four season performance at a very fair price. I plan on purchasing a new set these tires in November for my IS300. In my opinion, no other tire is even close when cost and all-season capability are the primary concerns.

I have Yokohama Avid V4s and Dunlop SP Sport A2s. The Avids are on the loud side, and not too good in the snow, but very good dry or in the rain, and I got them very cheap ($75/ea). The Dunlops are much better in the snow, and a little quieter, but not quite as good dry, they also seem to wear a little faster. I believe the Dunlops have been discontinued though.

If you can afford it get 2 sets of tires and run strictly summer or winter tires.
Too me, all season tires are not very good in the summer and not very good in the winter

Here are three performance all seaons tires I have liked:
Continental ContiExtremeContact Dunlop SP Sport 5000 Asymmetrical Bridgestone Turanza LS-V The Bridgestones have Uni-T and are great in the rain. The Contis have been as good in the snow and seem a little sportier in the dry. The Dunlops are a nice tire as well, but got noisey when there started to wear down and they did not wear as well a the Contis (so far). On a related note/rant... Does anyones else hate the tirerack user reviews? Some people have meaningful reviews that they put some thought into. But they are the minority. Most people post something like this guy: "Just purchased these tires in Durham,NC and ran into a big rain storm on the way home. The tire handle just great and Im sure will get better after I break them on a trip to the coast. They are like night and compared to the Bridgestones. They are very quiet tire." Really? You mean to tell me that in the rain your new tires with full tread depth perform better than your old tires that were likely down to the wear bars (which is why they were replaced)? I have the Goodyear Assurance Triple Treads on my 99 Outback and I swear by them - Ice and snow, they work great. Smooth and quiet in the Summer too. Great deal at Wal-Mart with lifetime balance/rotate.
Not sure what speed ratings they are available in and if appropriate for the SVX.

The touranza's are what I had on my 'Teg EXCELENT wet and snow and Extremly good wear.
The Potenza's did very well in the snow for what little I had time to play in it.

I have Continental ContiExtremeContact on a couple of my cars. I love them. There are a number of members around here that have them too. Quiet and very good traction in the rain and dry.
