Exclamation NOTE: Computer technobabble in this post. Read at your own risk!

OK, here is the situation. I am looking to see if any of our computer literate or hardware junkies have some needed equipment gathering dust.

We are going to be making some server upgrades in the near future. This includes a newer RAID card (faster and different maunfacuter with FULL linux driver support) as well as faster drives and more space. We got drives generously donated by qwk.net and drive cases donated by mohrds. What we lack at this point to continue this operation are some cables and terminators. So, I am asking all SVX Network members to look in their closets, junk drawers, local dot.gone auctions, etc.... for these items before I have to dish out some serious cash for them.

Needed:
(TWO) VHDCI (very high density centronics interface) or 0.8mm to 68 pin male SCSI cables. Please be 3' or less in length.
The back of the card needs the VHDCI type plug. It looks like this:

The other end needs to be the standard 68 pin male SCSI wide type plug for external devices. It needs to look like this:
http://www.subaru-svx.net/photos/files/Chris/1690.JPG

(TWO) 68 pin male (external type plug) active SCSI/SE terminators.

If anyone has these and wouldnt mind donating them to the server for use, or know where to find these items without getting raped on prices, please leave a message here or send me a PM. As it stands right now, this is roughly $200 in new equipment prices that I would rather avoid right now. (NOTE) I have checked ebay and found some of these cables, but all of them were 6+ footers and this would not be good for our overall cable length. This extra long cable can cause data coruption in a non-differential SCSI set up. Our card is capable of both LVD or SE, but the drives donated are SE only.

Thanks for everyones help, and Happy Holidays.

Chris,

Its not a permanent solution, but have you thought about using an internal cable and removing a slot cover from the case and feeding the first drive from the RAID card's internal connector?

I've done that before and it works well. The 68 pin internal and 68 pin external are identical except for the lack of hold down screws.

Also, the cases I sent all have auto termination so the last case on the string will terminate if no cable is plugged into the out connector.

By the time the SVX Network computer guys get done we will have a computer that can outperform Lt. Commander Data (the android) on Star Trek

I used to be able to perform 6.9 zillion computations per sec. in my head. Lately however, it is down to 2.3 - 2.4 computations per hour by the time I finish my 6th scotch.
